It matters in the sense that if we want to get further than the 2nd round, chances are that we probably need to find one.

I forgot.... trying to help people use language more efficiently is "being a dick"

I didn't personally attack anybody or say anything negative, actually.

We simply have all these phrases that we hear over and over and they become a part of our lexicon without us really thinking about them. It often takes someone else to wake us from our dogmatic slumber and go "Oh yeah... that doesn't really make sense."

Thats my sole intention.

I know you know when someone's defense is terrible.

Harden was mocked for matador defense.

He's not considered 2 way.
He's the best at creating fouls under last years rules. Most people are so offended by his style of creating "contact" that the rules will change.
The new rule will reduce hardens effectiveness with the ball.

But what is that threshold?

It's 85/72 to qualify as a two way and everyone knows this. That's a ridiculous question.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN???! > end rant.

It's a colloquialism that a large body of NBA fans understand.

Players like Jabari have admitted they only go one way. This didn't need a rant

I would bet that if you asked 10 people, you would have 7-8 different thresholds.

Saying that something is "undefinable" but that people all generally understand what it means is a recipe for misunderstanding and miscommunication. People do it far too often. Instead of being more precise with their words, they rely on "colloquialisms" that lead to confusion.

Everybody in the NBA plays two ways. Literally everyone. There are DH's in the MLB. There are one way players in the NFL. Neither of those things exist in the NBA. Everyone plays two ways. And almost every player plays better on one of those sides of the ball than the other. But you are not a one way player if that is the case, no matter how big the gap.

And how do you qualify as a 72?!!? :)

You take defensive rebounds per game, add blocks per game, multiply by steals, subtract TOs, and then divide all of that by 6.

72 is what we call the Trevor Ariza line (TAL). If you're below the TAL you're a one way. If you're above you're a two way. This all assumes you're already above the 85 offensive standard of course.

All of this was explained on Bomani Jones's podcast.

Solomon Hill's contributions are well appreciated by the end of the season.

I'd appreciate him learning how to shoot from a set position.

We don't need a separate category

The way the league has changed to mercilessly attack your weak links I think we do. 2 way players are good enough on both sides to not get played off the court. Moore is a neutral defender at best but he’s just good enough so we generally consider him a 2 way player even though he barely passes for one.

So, Moore qualifies as a two way player? Does Hill?

If Moore's 3-pt percentage dips to 34% this year, is he still a two way player?

Where are the official rankings of these two way players and I still need an answer to my question of what it means to say Harden is a better player than Jrue but that Jrue is a better "two way player"?

Its just so unnecessary and arbitrary. But if you want to say, "X is a guy you have to take off the court in Y matchups" - I am fine with that. But even these guys like Harden that don't qualify for this mythical "two way" distinction (like Harden) - he doesn't come off the court on D in crunch time. So that doesn't apply. If Harden is on the court for the most important defensive possessions, how is he not a "two way" player.

I guess I need a firm definition for a player who does not apply for this "two way" distinction.

Okay this is easy.

Good or better offensively or defensively and below average at opposite position = bad two way player

Good or better at offense and defense = good two way player.

It's not hard there bud.

Your being this excited for Randle actually has me excited. I don’t like getting too hyped up for FAs around here, but he was the best player on that Lakers team last year.

Your post on two-way players is wrong btw. Some of your syntax rants have some validity, but that one is bad.

We need Zjrue at the top of his game. I guess that would be Evil Jrue?

If we finished top 3, that would be pretty radical and I would approve.

Sadly, I don’t see anyone knocking off the Dubs. With KD on all cylinders, they’re probably unstoppable.

With Randle now in the mix, we can put Randle on Green, which would free up AD to defend KD and Jrue klay or Steph..

I would be willing to place a small bet on us being able to take them to 6-7 games
