I know Griffin and the team will keep trying. But Anthony Davis isn't coming back to New Orleans

NBA source:
Arrival of new @PelicansNBA VP David Griffin has not changed Anthony Davis’ stance.
AD still wants trade away from NOLA.
I asked source could things change.
Answer (paraphrasing):
While Griff & AD’s agent Rich Paul have good relationship, don’t except change of heart.

Jake and Fletch both choose 4 hours ago to comment on the AD is staying rumors. Curious. Did the team leak an "update" to the local media to temper expectations? I know on this board at least a lot of people seem to be focused as much on a team with AD as with his potential trade return.

It's not from the team. It's from the same very minor, not in the know source.

Of course AD hasn't moved, he and Griffin haven't had their meeting yet. How is a guy going to change his mind with no new information?

Sure, AD will likely still ask out after the meeting. That is what the odds would say, but to say he hasn't changed his mind prior to the meeting is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen Fletch report and that is saying a lot.

It would be the equivalent of reporting that David Griffin is still unsure of who he will draft this year.

Also, if you think the team would leak info to Fletcher and Jake Madison to pull in the expectations of 9 people on a fringe message board..... you might think a little too highly of how much the team cares about people who probably don't even contribute 10k combined to their bottom line. No offense, but that aint the kind of stuff Griffin and Co. are worried about right now.

Fletch is a clown. I don’t pay any attention to him.

I do respect Jake though.

Jake works really hard. And there are no doubt whispers. Different ones every day. But this was non news reported by Fletch like its big news. Of course AD hasn't budged prior to even having the meeting. And there's a good chance he won't budge even after the meeting.

But is it big.surprising news that he hasn't changed his mind with no new information? It's just typical Fletch BS

I mean know one really knows for sure. No one has a time machine. But it’s the most likely outcome.

Anyone who believes otherwise is probably fooling themselves. However, it’s unlikely that Jake or Fletch are getting any info at all from ADs camp. They would use someone national. And griffin wouldn’t either. So it’s some minor source.

And really we’ve been focused lately on if AD stays because we’ve beat the trade talk to death and the meeting approacheth.

All correct. Not to mention, there is another event before their meeting that will have massive repercussions around the league.

There will be news to report in the next 2-3 weeks. There isn't any now

Madison is just stating his opinion as far as I can tell, unless he’s said elsewhere that he’s reporting what others have told him. Fletcher is in a position to have others tell him things which I believe he’s doing here

neither matters until Davis tells griffin what he wants. And I’ll say this...even if he is wavering it will require some maturity and self reflection on davis’ part to stand up and face the music if he decides to stay, and I don’t think he has it in him. At this point the path of least resistance is to stick with his trade demand and that’s what he’s going to do

Totally agree. I think the biggest hurdle by far is that AD doesn't want to take his lumps when he comes back. But it would take him all of one week to get 99% of the casuals back on his side. And they make up 95% of the base

I just wanted to make it clear I’m not comparing Jake and Fletch.

I think Jake does really good work.

His credibility is also for shite so him saying his sources say AD is out, which is the most likely outcome, will allow him to look like he's in the know and reestablish his credibility.

don’t underestimate how petty and provincial NOLA fans (and businesses) can be when they are told they aren’t good enough especially by an outsider. We know we are dysfunctional and backwards...but we love the ones who love us back anyway

it’s an obstacle that can be be climbed but it takes effort and sincerity and I’m doubting why Davis would even try at this point, or that he could if he wanted to. Everything that’s come out of his mouth since January has been childish nonsense despite his warranted concerns

like it or not fletcher is the biggest booster of this team inside the traditional local media and he is a fan as well. The team needs him on that wall and he is genuine in wanting the team to succeed

he’s been consistent in calling out failed team building strategies whether you agree with his solutions (or dumb fake trades) or not. And he was right...hope is indeed not a plan

It would be so simple. All he would have to do is say that he didn't see a commitment to winning at the highest levels (which is true), but with the hiring of Mr. Griffin and his vision, I am totally all in and will be all in until the day I retire. I have always loved this city and loved my teammates (which he said even back then), and all I wanted to do was have a chance to win at the highest level and now I know that with Mr. Griffin and Ms. Benson here, we will bring titles to this city!

Thats it. Takes out an ad in whatever Newspaper hasn't folded yet and he says things like that in interviews. Gentry talks him up, Jrue, Griffin, etc.

Within a week, the narrative will be that Dell was an idiot and the reason AD wanted out and now that he is gone AD wants back in. He never wanted to leave US, he wanted to get away from Dell's stupid moves. I mean the guy signed Solomon Hill and Omer Asik!! He was an idiot, can you blame AD??!! He's back!!!

See how easy that is. Yeah, maybe 1% of that will know there is more to it, but we are the vast, vast minority. Give people a fall guy (in this case, Dell, someone they already don't like) and they will buy anything you sell them
