I’d imagine we won’t hear about anything until Wednesday night or draft night

Boston Celtics center Al Horford will not exercise the $30.1M option on his 2019-20 contract and become an unrestricted free agent, league sources tell ESPN. Horford and the Celtics both have interest in working toward a new deal in July, sources tell ESPN.

Horford coming back at a lower number ($20M range) with length (3 years) on the contract would allow Boston to have the full $9.2M midlevel and $3.6M bi-annual exception to use in free agency. C's are still under the tax if both are used and Rozier brought back.

So they're going to pretty much run back the same team as last year minus Kyrie?

Good luck.

That team made the Eastern Conference Finals the year before.

Given his career struggles, I don’t see how Elfrid on the Lakers works out well.

Failed with the Magic, failed with the Suns, played well with us but was banged up.

Now going to play next to LeBron, who is notorious for hating on players who don’t know what the frick they are doing?

Maybe just losing Kyrie will end up being a positive for all of their other guys. But all of the other teams around them have gotten better while BOS looked worse last year.

I guess that really depends on what Kawhi, MIL, and the Sixers ultimately decide to do though. If Kawhi heads west, MIL loses a couple of guys they need to extend, and PHIL doesn't retain Butler/Harris maybe BOS is back on top.

They still have a lot of options and can play this a lot of ways.

- Run the team back with a rebuild centered around Tatum, sitting on Hayward and hoping that he regains his form and value.

- Make a move for Conley with the Memphis pick as the centerpiece (has more value to Memphis than any other team)

- Use Jaylen Brown (since they’ll have to pay him soon) and picks to get Beal.

I think the first option of a rebuild around Tatum is the most likely, since Ainge is not known to sell low on any asset. By running it back, Brown, Tatum, and maybe even Hayward will most likely recoup a lot of value.

Boston’s future is such an enigma since Kyrie is leaving and they didn’t get AD. Heck, I’ve heard that they have considered, if the right other pieces fall into place, trying to swap Hayward for Love straight up. Who knows what they’ll do.

1 is realistic.

2 is complicated by the belief that Utah is close to a deal to get Conley. If they want to go in that direction, Ainge better start calling Memphis quick.

I don’t see 3 as realistic for the same reason that I see us getting Beal as unrealistic for the moment. There isn’t a permanent GM in DC right now and no interim guy is going to be allowed to ship out the team’s best asset.

God that has to suck. Imagine the best return you could get in an AD/CP3 type trade was your own pick back because you sent it out for some attempt at something that obviously didn't work out.

Per Woj.

Good for our picks. Even just Kawhi and AD would be enough to really frick our future picks up. I don't think Kyrie or Kemba would have TOO much of an effect, and I could see Kyrie/AD/Lebron having some serious locker room problems.

You are 100% right and all what you said is very true. It sounds like Utah will get Conley and Ainge will sit on his hands, not wanting to close their window too early.

As for the Beal interest, I meant that as a future plan and not for necessarily this off-season. The Wiz don’t even have a GM in place, so all Beal speculation is impossible to predict. The plan for Boston is/was always AD. He fit perfectly with the roster they were building (though his greatest asset is that he fits on every roster). I don’t think they predicted Kyrie playing out this way and the pure desperation of the Lakers. The Celtics situation is just so fluid right now

Woj is also saying that the Lakers are likely to break that $24m in cap room into multiple contracts rather than get another star.

That lowers their potential upside but seriously raises their floor IMHO since they will be less susceptible to injuries.

I kind of want Kawhi to go to LAC.

1:

2: Once LeBron retires, will anyone really want to go join AD on the Lakers if Kawhi is sitting there in LA on the other team?
