Cleveland Cavs are a dumpster fire and they are looking to clean house.

Korver makes 7.5M this year and next. I believe Wesley Johnson and Darius Miller salaries pretty much match up. Gives you an elite 3 point shooter and he can play Darius Miller’s 12 mins a game and maybe give him a few more minutes a game if he’s hot or if Moore is injured. Not a great defender, but probably not worse than Darius on that end. Only thing that concerns me with this trade is 2019 free agency flexibility and opportunity cost of missing out on other deals that may come up. Reasons why I like the trade. 1) Elite 3 pt and Free Throw shooter 2) Leader/Fits in with Current Positive Locker Room Culture. 3) Keep 1st Rd pick. 4) Trading 2 guys that aren’t necessarily difference makers for a guy that can single handily win you 5-6 games when he gets hot and changes the gravity/spacing on the offensive end which will make things easier in the paint for post ups with Randle/Davis and dribble drives with Jrue.

They want a 1st round pick for him.

Also his contract isn’t fully guaranteed for next year.

If they didn’t want the pick this deal would be done already. As is I would wait awhile and see what’s out there. Would love to have him.

No. Can't play him against the warriors.

They wouldn’t want our guys necessarily, but they are expirings. Instead of paying Korver 7.6m this year and a min of 3.4m next year, they would only have to pay Wesley and Darius about 8.3m this year. Overall saves them 2.7m or so. Opens up minutes for younger players. Didn’t realize they wanted a first. I’d throw a 2nd or 2 at them. I’d want to keep the 1st for a bigger move. I highly doubt anyone is going to give them a 1st, so our package of expirings and 2nd’s should be one of the better offers they receive.

This is an easy frick yes if we don't give up much. We need all the shooters we can get, and it's not like Cleveland needs him.

You don't need to include Miller.
Korver for Johnson and a future 2nd seems fair.

Cavs want a 1st, but surely they won't get that for 37 year old Korver

Fans make the same mistake every time when thinking up trade ideas. They see it as an A vs B proposition when its really A vs B vs C vs D vs........N vs P proposition for teams.

Its not: Keep Korver and pay him next years partially guaranteed salary vs. trade him for Wes Johnson and have no salary on next years books. If those were their only two options, yes they would probably take Wes. But, there are also 28 other teams in the league, including one that has a certain Lebron James - who is going to demand that his GM go out and get some shooting if this season keeps going the way it is.

Thats why the Cavs can sit tight and ask for a first now. They probably will never get it, but the worst they will get is an expiring, so why take it now when they can get that in February? Quick answer: They won't.

The trade I would consider once its legal is Hill and a lotto protected 1st for Korver and Rodney Hood. Gives me shooting for this year and flexibility to move on from those guys next year or keep them if I want them. I probably wouldn't do it, but I'd consider it.

My first reaction to that is
I would hate to have to give up a first just to make cap space next year.

But it's not a terrible deal, if we are playing well and a top 4 contender in December.

That type of deal would give us just AD/Jrue/Moore/Frank/Korver ($67M) as the only contracts on the books, giving us about $40M in cap space.
Niko has a $18.7M cap hold if we plan on resigning him, Elfrid is $3.6M

Exactly. It's not ideal but it gives you a multitude of options while also giving you the skill sets this team needs for this season. If it's the 24th pick, it's a fine trade.

You could also easily get off Moore and Korver if some superstar wants to join AD after a WCF run. To me, flexibility always Trump's locking into players unless they are CLEAR difference makers

Hood is the intriguing part to me. I'm down on him, but maybe he shows something in a new system/team.

Just lots of uncertainty with the UFAs the Pels have. Smart to have contingencies and flexibility to adapt this summer. Moving Hills deal is worth that if the pick is in the 20s and you can improve the team for this season too

Exactly. Judging on what it took the Nuggets to trade Faried, I'd say moving Hill is worth that pick alone. Get a 80+ games combined out of Korver and Hood, with the option to keep them moving forward if I really want to. Like I said, it's not my favorite deal but I wouldn't hate it

Thing is though, even if we create all that cap space, what are we going to do with it?
Everyone has cap space, and we aren't going to attract the big names, so we will likely be fighting for that second tier or even 3rd tier player.
Bring back Niko and Payton, and then you're looking at having $20M in cap space, and you're playing would you rather Randle, or someone else, maybe someone like Tobias Harris.

My ideal trades this year, if we are playing well, would be to go after a young SF that isn't the best SF on his team, like Oubre, or Bembry, or McGruder or Valentine. If you can unload Solo in the process and not take back salary for next year, we can have a guy that can start at the 3 for us, and still have that $20M in cap space to play who would you rather between Randle and whoever. Some of those guys fit into the trade exception, or could be had just sending out Diallo.
Solo/1st for Bembry/Dedmon
Bembry has been shooting good enough from 3, is a long defender, and is active on the boards.

You can have space and take guys into it. Or re-sign your own. Or a combo of the two.

There are options. You go get Otto Porter and 80 percent of those same options are gone. So the question becomes: Is Otto Porter worth minimizing my options. That's how to think of it

Just curious, with Klay and KD both saying they wont play for anything less than a max deal next year, you think GS would be willing to trade Klay rather than risk losing him for nothing?

Klay and Bell for
Niko, Moore and 1-1st, 2 if needed

That gives GS a cheap replacement (as much as he could be) for Klay, and another big, that they could re-sign and save money next year over Klay, plus gives the room to offer KD a full max.

We do it, because we get Klay freaking Thompson as our future at SF
