Nope, he had long stretches of games where he seen plenty of minutes off the bench last season. Either way he still looks like the same guy as last season. Slow with a terrible looking shot. Hopefully he figures it out, I’m rooting for him. By all accounts he’s a great kid with a great work ethic. But as of now, he’s been bad

I surely don't recall that. Now he's slow? My god the hot takes on this board are insufferable.

In my opinion NAW needs as much playing time as we can give him. His biggest weakness that I see is he’s wide eyed on the floor and only experience will help him be more comfortable. He’s improved from last year tremendously. He’s gone from being uncontrolled in driving the basketball to maybe the best guard we have at driving. He works hard on defense and does well and is just learning to use his length. The only regression I see is he’s not as confident as he should be in his passing ability probably afraid of turnovers that Stan made clear needs to be cleaned up. He’s also struggling from 3 but that happens not worried about it. He can be what he was in summer league the game just has to slow down for him and I think it will eventually with enough opportunity.

Kira is not wide eyed at all, you can tell he’s comfortable. I need more time to assess his abilities but early on he has a knack for getting in passing lanes but struggles staying in front of his man. Offensively his shot needs work but looks sufficient driving the basketball. Either way he doesn’t need to be getting run at NAW’s expense but until the trade deadline clears things up it might be the Pel’s only option in trying to keep trade value high for one or two of Redick, Bledsoe, and Ball.

Kira plays with better pace and decisiveness. He's a true PG. NAW is solid when he's not forcing shots and can be useful as an off ball guard.

Yall are acting like NAW is some enigma, but he’s really not. He is really good when he starts and he has a green light (ie SL, Preseason, and the reg season games he’s started) and he is mostly awful off the bench. Being able to come in cold off the bench and score is not a skill every player has. NAW should probably start beside Lonzo. Our starting 5 would have elite size if we did that. NAW is more Shai than Louis Williams. Williams can sit on the bench for 45 minutes and come in smoking. NAW needs to get about 5-7 shots up before he can get any semblance of a rhythm going. And if he struggles early, he has a hard time getting out of his funk.

I like Kira and NAW. They compliment each other well and I think we should be playing both of them instead of either/or.

You can’t bellyache when this team loses and in the same breath want to give NAW substantial run. If we sell off and put the tank into effect, sure

But even a bad JJ draws attention from the defense. Bled and Ball have been playing well, and Kira has earned more minutes. NAW does not have a place right now

In a way, NAW is like the Pelicans version of Dillon Brooks. Both have some very questionable shot selection that ends up negatively impacting the team. The difference is Brooks got paid 3/$35M in hopes he'd get more consistent. He hasn't. This is why paying a maybe is risky.

I can't imagine NAW remaining inconsistent and getting paid. If he doesn't start improving on those things that can be coached next year, he goes from next Jordan Clarkson to next Frank Jackson and his next deal should probably be with another team unless he stays super cheap.

He can't be much worse than JJ has been shooting this season...
Is this serious? Even in JJ's slump, NAW is exponentially worse. Defensively, NAW is much better.

Kira measured 6’3” 165 with a 6’5” wingspan and 8’5” standing reach back in 2018 at the Team USA U18 training camp. Being that he’s only 19, I would say his growth is still fluid

I know his trainer put him at 185 going into this season

That was in shoes. NBA official measurement now is barefoot, which is probably where the 6'1" is coming from.

If he starts, he’s hot immediately. If he’s off the bench, he needs 5-7 shots. It’s very obvious what is going on. He is not a bench player. He’s a starter and yall are discussing him like he should be out of the league. Some guys just need to start. Coming off the bench and scoring while cold is a skill.

Bledsoe is listed at 6’1 and Kira is noticeably taller than him

He's had 4 starts, way too small of a sample size for these sweeping declarations.

Even on ESPN Kira is listed at 6'1

but no problem if he's 6'3

Good lord lol. Maybe he becomes starter material but as of right now, no way in hell. I don’t understand why people find it so hard to say he’s been bad. He shouldn’t be out of the league obviously, but to pretend like he hasn’t been bad is very strange lol. If lonzo or Bledsoe were putting up the numbers NAW is, this board would be melting lol.

He kinda has to earn that starting status and he has not even come close to that.

SVG on NAW: “He’s probably better suited to play the 2 than the 1 so we’ve probably put him in some bad situations.”

Said he expects Nickeil to be fine and understands if he was disappointed after not playing the other night.

Let's not forget what players are getting more set plays also. You have SVG trying to set up JJ, Bled, and Lonzo with BI/Zion. NAW gets thrown in off the bench without set plays with the starters and mainly has had Melli/ Hayes as his center.

He isn't Kira and that's not necessary a bad thing, he just can't create as well. Its more of executing and the game slowing down. He has a great base already.

Either way a 4 game sample size with starters isn't enough. I agree with the guy saying he has played better when starting and stats show this. I'm not saying he should be starting but its just as dumb for y'all to write him off while knowing he only has started 4 games and played well in them.
