With Kira getting more minutes than NAW last night, I thought this is an interesting topic. As a huge NAW fan, I find myself in the interesting place of believing that Kira probably does need to play more than NAW right now due to fit.

Kira is more of what we need right now (a natural lead guard) than NAW (a natural combo guard/scorer). I still have hope for NAW in the future but that is heavily predicated in his getting much more consistent with his 3 point shot.

Kira is a true PG tho. NAW is better suited at SG

I'll never understand our obsession with playing NAW at PG. His defense isn't good enough to go against really good PGs and he doesn't have the recovery speed to make up when he gets hammered by a screen.

He should be playing SG as a 3 and D option. Hes better as a help defender playing in space and rotating. His lead guard skills will develop over time but putting him in that situation now as a role player is a huge mistake.

I think everything goes back to the choice of not playing Kira, right or wrong choice, but as he gets worked more into the rotation it seems that is going to work itself out.

I think over the next 10-15 games we are going to see Kira as the singular back up lead guard with Lonzo/Bled staggered to cover the rest of the gaps. Naw I think is either going to need to step it up or he might find himself back behind Redick off the bench collecting DNP’s.

Exactly! NAW true potential is a Jamal Crawford/ Lou Williams type of player to me. He’s more of a 6th man and scorer off the bench on a good team.

We need Kira bc he’s one guy that doesn’t need to get a ton of shots up. Different energy with him out there.

What does NAW bring right now besides deflecting passes?

When the inefficient chuckers rear their ugly head, this team is terrible. Ball has gotten right and NAW’s minutes get limited, we start playing well

Drives, which have been important with the guard rotation most of the year. If Kira is your backup now you may not need that.

I want to see if NAW can get his shot going if he's in a strictly off ball/scoring role. Let him sit and learn for now, but after they trade JJ give him a shot in JJ's role and see what happens. He can't be much worse than JJ has been shooting this season and he should provide better defense.

NAW is trash at basketball so there’s that.

I think he can improve just because of his work ethic. I agree that he should go for the JJ/Clarkson/Lou Williams role when JJ gets traded.

How many time# does it have to be said: NAW is not a point guard. If he makes it, it will be as a shooting guard, so he’ll have to shoot a helluva lot better than he has so far to see the floor.

But Kira does not have the size to contests shots of opposing PG which are taller than Kira for the most part.

Has NAW played even 1 minute at the 2 with Kira at the 1?

This is still one of SVG's biggest issues (granted the roster isn't in the best shape currently, but the rotations only magnify the issues). The bench is still too short, and he keeps trying to play some guys at positions they shouldn't be playing (most notably NAW).

If NAW and JJ are both in (which imo they shouldn't share many, if any, minutes), JJ should play more of a point role early in the clock.

While NAW can do some great things with the ball, he should be getting it off a screen/pick and roll or when the ball swings sides. He shouldn't be starting the possession with it if there is another guard that can bring it up.

I would love to see NAW and Lewis on the floor together a LOT more. I don't like the either/or nature that Van Gundy has been doing with them. If that means less JJ then so be it, because you need to get these 2 guys some time and JJ may not be here post trade deadline.

and 170 pounds. I am 100% all-in on Kira being our starting PG next season, after he's had an offseason in an NBA weight room with Nelson.

I've said it in other threads, but I'll say it here again: he's not yet strong enough to handle a lot of the bigger guards in the league. Kira was solid last night against Ja, but John Wall will have a 40-pound advantage on Kira Tuesday night, and I just don't think that's going to work well.

But, yes, after we trade Lonzo and Redick, we'll have plenty of minutes for both these guys.

this is the reason why this is a hard choice to trade Lonzo for me...

Yes he's very inconsistent, yes he hasn't the same lead guard level like Kira, yes you mustn't overpay him but have an elite defender on probably the toughest position of the nba is really valuable...

It will be hard to find it after Lonzo.

Under no circumstances should we ever do this.

This is easily my biggest bug bear with SVG right now

Why are you trying to make NAW a PG when Kira is sitting 40 cm away from you

It's actually hurting my soul
