The fans that want all politics out of sports are the same fans that will start a new thread every time a coach or players says something political in a presser or a tweet.

Not completely true, i yhink that sports is an entertainment venue and it should stay that way. If SVG likes biden or any othe communists he is more then welcome this is America, but as the face of a franchise it is up to the ownership to shut him down. I want to watch the game, not hear about or see blm shite.

Biden a communist

As an actual semi leftist, that is the funniest joke I have heard in a while.

As to SVG, listen, he’s a finalist, if he’s this far Griffin can see his tweets, and Gayle is in on the process. Frankly, the goal is building a winning culture and a place players want to come to and play, and hate to break the news, but the players in this league are mostly black and mostly woke AF. If the goal is building a winning organization, as opposed to satisfying cultural conservative’s insecurities and need for the correct virtue signals, SVG’s passion on civil rights is anything but a negative.

Wait, SVG isn’t allowed to have a personal twitter account and say personal opinions?

He is on TV all the time and I never hear any political stuff.

You want to inspect his personal library for any books that need burning too?

Had you ding dongs never said he was a political nut job, I would have never known it b/c I don’t keep up with most coaches and players personal lives. If they don’t talk about during basketball games, then I won’t know, so who gives a shite.
And I would prefer to not hear any coach or player preach about politics or social issues during basketball time. Shut the frick up and dribble.

Rare to see someone self-ascribe as a leftist. I think you’re a great poster on here and would love to see that coherent style of debate you have on the Poli Board. Especially if you’re trying to defend much of what the leftist wing of the Democrat Party is up to over the last 5-10 years.

In order to steer part of my post Pels related, as far as SVG’s politics go, I’m with TeddyP. If I didn’t know he was hyper partisan before you all started whining about it, then I’d say it’s really a moot point. He’s allowed to curate a collection of personal thoughts on his own twitter. I don’t see the big deal. Meritocracy, right? If he’s who they think will best lead this team/culture, I’m all for it.

Disagree, politics intertwining in sports is fricking annoying and I guarantee you that I haven’t started a thread about any player or coach comments. I really don’t search it out, but if it’s thrown in my face, it’s not appreciated. I usually just try to tune it out. For instance, I’ve seen people mention SVG’s comments but haven’t cared enough to even look into what they are.

The more I've read of poster ideologies and delusions on tiger droppings the more I'm so thankful to be out of louisiana. Felt like I was viewing a freaking cult in them political and LSU threads.

I went check out his Twitter yesterday out of curiosity, and let’s just say if a new thread was started every time he posted something political Pels Talk would be WAY more active.

I don’t care though, he can have his opinions as long as if he’s our coach he teaches our guys to put the round ball in the circle hole better than the other guys.

I certainly get why an athlete knows that they have a voice and want to use it however they want, but I don't get or can't think of a single reason why a fan would actually want politics involved in sports to the level it is now. Why would you?

That being said, I have zero issue tuning it all out, every last bit of it, and just enjoying them playing the sport like I always have. I don't like the sport any less as a result, I just ignore all of that and watch them play basketball like I've done my entire life.

All of this sounds good and I'm sure we all agree that we would rather not know or hear about it. But it is silly to say that it doesn't matter or everybody can tune it out. There are degrees and when people go to the extremes, it is hard to ignore. Especially for a coach, that is management and whose view shapes a team. I get that almost everybody is left or left leaning in the league. But dude is tweeting almost 10x a day and attacking people on the right, in an aggressive way. It is odd to see a rich, old white guy do this which is why he is hugely popular. So I want to know, is it a front or is this just his deal and he is going to keep doing it?

No it isn't just choose to ignore it. We used to do that all the time, just go on living our lives instead of obsessing on things we hate and can't control. One of the biggest problems we have today is so many people giving way more attention to people than they deserve. That problem isn't going to be solved by continuing to give things attention that don't deserve it. If we don't have the self discipline to ignore these things, it will only get worse as we feed the attention economy.

I will say that Stan's tweet that triggered this outrage did go too far. Had he been coach of a team at the time I would expect the team would have made him apologize. You can't just say you probably don't like a certain percentage of season ticket holders. You can think it, but you shouldn't say it. But he's not employed by a team yet and there are multiple threads outraged about it. How about we wait until he becomes coach and see if his behavior changes any instead of having a preemptive melt down?

I also think it needs to be said that we as fans will at some point say WAY worse things about the next coach than "we probably don't like" him. People upset about this are throwing stones from a glass house, not a high horse.
