I'd rather Brown.

if the Grizz pick conveys next year, then the likelihood of drafting a player as good as Brown isn't very high.
If it doesn't convey and goes to 2021, and ends up being a top 3 or 4 pick, then yeah, I'd rather that pick, but given the new lottery format, and the fact that the Grizzlies may be mediocre, which may lead to a pick in the higher single digits, I go back to the likelihood of drafting a player as good as Brown isn't very high.

I like Jaylen Brown, and i'd much rather him over Marcus Smart, and I really love what Marcus Smart brings to a team attitude wise.

What I fear getting both Tatum and Brown, is maybe Brown not wanting to take that back seat to Tatum. He may see his chance at a new start with no Kyrie or Horford or Hayward, and want to be more of the man. I have no idea if he feels that way, and imo, I see him as a really good role player.

That would depend on what role Brown would be played in.

Personally I would like to see Tatum stay on the wing, so with Jrue and Brown in the other 2 backcourt spots, we would need a decent passing big man, to allow Jrue to focus on being Jrue and not have full time ball handling responsibilities also

I look at it like this if by chance you cant find any takers for brown or you do and you dont want any of the stuff the other team is sending back then which is a better asset to my franchise a player who doesn’t fit what were doing or the Memphis pick which does have a higher ceiling and cold turn out to be a top 3 pick i dont want another eric Gordon situation were we are stuck paying someone just because we traded a superstar for them gotta take some risks

me too
smart has to be in the deal for salary matching but he would be the guy i'd be looking to trade

There's also the possibility of keeping Brown, and some other team being much higher on Tatum than Griffin is, then trading Tatum for a better fitting young star and/or more picks.

If Hawks or Cavs get #2 overall pick, swing Tatum to them for Morant + more possibly. Roll on with Ja/Jrue/Jaylen/(Hayward?) core along with the Pels' pick and the treasure chest of draft picks.

I couldn't agree more. Or Tatum for Beal, etc.

Yeah Shamit was throwing out Brown + Pels 1st rounder or Tatum for Beal hypothetical scenarios on the last In The NO pod. Would be intriguing depending on what type of direction the new Wiz GM wants to go in.

I really really like Jaylen Brown. But I don’t see him on this team in the long term. If Griffin’s plan is to build this organization ‘the right way,’ then giving Brown a big contract in a year is the opposite of that

So just like you’re saying, it comes down to which is more valuable as a trade asset in Feb between Brown & the 6th overall pick? I think the pick has way more value due to the rookie contract and the speculation of ‘what could the 6th pick become?’

Tldr: 6th pick all day

I think it would be at best 7. Isn't it top 6 protected?

Not that that would necessarily change your mind.

See as much as I love Beal and want him next to Jrue, I’d only do a trade (at least right now) for young talent and assets, i.e. like Tatum for Morant

Then once we’ve got some young players, depth, direction, then swing for a guy like Beal

Lol no it wouldn’t change way mind. I don’t want to be in a position where I have to give Brown $25 mil/yr

I’d much rather take a pick to either use or trade plus have the option of using cap space to become a buyer and accumulate assets. Gives you much more possibilities to retool the roster than just hoping you get something in a Brown trade or hope Brown is a future perennial all-star

I was literally about to say that in my last post.
I think Beal is better than Tatum will be, but when i started thinking more about it i started to talk myself out of it. Beal is only 25, and while he's not as tall as Tatum, i think he's more than capable of guarding bigger guys and i think he has a better offensive game than what Tatum will end up having.

if you're asking me if i'd rather trade Brown and a 1st for Beal, or Tatum for Beal, i think i'd much rather trade Tatum.

I'm also in the corner that doesn't think Tatum is going to be some savior. Good player, sure, but i just don't see him being an all star caliber player for years to come. I think a Jrue/Beal combo would be very fun to watch, and would have better results than Jrue/Tatum.

In this scenario id go grizzlies pick all day, but so far i really dont see jaylen getting that type of money. But even if we could resign him in RFA for like 4 years 60 which i see as a more likely contract for what hes shown so far. id still probably lean towards the pick

If those are my options, I think I would prefer trading Brown and a 1st for Beal over trading Tatum for Beal. Would have Jrue/Beal/Tatum. I like that trio.

I want Brown ten times out of ten. How many 22 years with his ability will have the experience in big games like he does. A couple... Simmons, Mitchell, maybe missing a couple others. That kind of experience in big games he got with a great organization matters. We know about his physical ability also. We keeping talking about being flexible long term if the pels really like Tatum and Brown go for it.

I'd try to convince Ainge to make sure we get Tatum, Brown, the Grizz pick and Smart. He can keep the Sacto and Clips picks. Then trade Smart or Jrue or possibly both for future assests.

Then sign scary Terry in fa and bring back Niko and a defensive 5 like Noel or Dedmon. Roll out there with the ECF Celtics of last year lol. But I'd prefer Brown to the Grizz pick but don't think u keep him and Jrue together. Jrue would have to be traded. So depends on his value relative to the Grizz pick if I'm keeping that or Brown.

In that scenario where it doesn't convey, you obviously take the pick over Jaylen. 20% chance it works out wildly in your favor, 30% chance it is a net gain, 40% chance it breaks even, 10% it is a net loss.

As a Celts fan, you guys are too high on Jaylen and far too low on Smart. Player development and organizational development are everything in this league. Smart is a super valuable guy to have on a young team (or a contending team, for that matter. Resigned to giving up Tatum, but wish we could keep Smart somehow.

I think we would be higher on Smart if Jrue wasn't our other guard. Far too much overlap in skill sets and weaknesses

Are Beal and Jrue really a good pair? The more I've thought about it since the buzz before deadline, I'm not so sure. It seems like you would really need a high end ball handler to add to those 2 guys to really unlock them; where's that coming from, and then how does your size pan out? Has Beal started handling the ball more since Wall's absence?
