the general concept to drive to the basket to get help defenders moving

That driving has been what’s missing in the losses. Shamit has been posting player drives stats after games and the losses tend to coincide with a much lower number of drives from the guards.

Not having an inside presence with Zion and Favors out so much has been a big impediment to driving IMO. When Jaxson was in last game the guards were driving non stop because Jaxson was rolling to the rim with them and they knew they had a safety valve. That’s why I think we need to wait for Zion to return before judging Lonzo.

The “system” looks like a bunch of guys chucking 3s because they don’t have the personnel to feel comfortable driving. Hopefully Jaxson can keep filling that hole some.

Ive been saying the same thing about Lonzo. Not once dating back to his freshman in college have I ever thought he would be a Nba star but I think we need to give him 20 games with Zion and even Hayes until we pass judegement.

I might sound crazy but he kind of reminds me of AD when we drafted him super long and athletic shot blocker who also finishes well around the rim both had decent looking shots he just had to gain one weight and more reps with his jumpshot and dude can turn into an all star

Like AD, his shot out the gate does NOT look good, and if he wants to take that leap he is going to have to reform it, plain and simple. Like AD did(people forget he came into the league as one of the most inefficient jump shooters in the league)

The guy has sky high potential, but like AD who came into the league with a questionable jumper: “I was shooting the wrong way,” Davis says. “I was more of a push-out shooter, from my chest,” Jaxson has an even larger hill to climb.

Because unlike Davis, Jaxson’s angle and form is really messy. I don’t know what Joel claims to see, but shooting sideways across your face at a low angle is not how any shooting coach would teach a player. Let alone one like Hayes who’s length with a higher release point would not just be more efficient, but downright deadly. His slotting, positioning, angling, and release point are all going to need adjustment to truly become a shooting threat imo. It’s a taller ask than AD who largely had decent form in most aspects but needed to adjust his release point and slightly alter his release angle. The good thing is he is so young in the game that he likely doesn’t have the calcified habits most players have his age. So breaking stuff down and adjusting should be a much easier task than for most.

Were not the healthy warriors
We dont have a steph or klay or Kd

Nor do we have a hustle guy like draymond to help the defensive deficiencies.

So just dribble penetrate and kick out.
Zion isnt going to fix this team. We play zero defense and if we run into a team that shoots 50% they win.

Zion might not "fix" the team but he is going to help tremendously.

Stated earlier in this post, we need more drive and kicks and right now Lonzo is not doing that which is frustrating. He has never really attacked the rim since his UCLA days and I think once he starts doing that his game will get to the next level.

But to say Zion isn't going to "fix" this team is ridiculous. Once Zion steps on the floor he is going to make everyone else around him that much better because he will cause so much attention. The entire defense will be focused on stopping him which will lead to much easier shots for everyone else on the floor.

Yeah, and that's why NAW had a positive +/- at the beginning of the year, even when he was missing all of his shots. We have to drive to the basket to be successful, and early in the season, Jrue wasn't doing that early in the season (and it remains to be seen whether Ball will do it much at all).

this experience is great for him he's still a little wonky on defense but that'll just come with more experience

Can’t find the stat but a buddy of mine said he saw a stat saying Hayes’ first 3 games, teams were 13/14 when they attacked him at the rim. His last 3 or 4 games before tonight teams were 2/12 attacking him with 5-6 blocks.

Saw that stat too- He has also been way better at not fouling and being a great rim protector. Also, his rim running has been impressive.

The genie is out of the bottle. I don’t know who’s minutes he’s taking, but he needs to keep getting at least 10 MPG when everyone is healthy.

100% agree, No chance Okafor plays over Hayes. Hayes brings a different type of skill set not only offensively but defensively as well.

The energy he brings is exciting and I thought it was contagious for the others last night. It’s going to take him some years to see the full potential but he will be a hell of a player.

first off the team that shoots 50% usually wins every game

second Zion isn't the answer to all of our problems. but on offense, his presence simply makes a massive difference. simply bc he is Zion, he will pull people inside the 3 point line instantly creating more space for others. and that doesn't even get into his specific skill-set.

1000%

this is one of the reasons BI has been so effective. he attacks, draws help defense which creates openings for others, and has shown to be a good enough passer to get it those players or has shown to be a gifted scorer to turn that play into points.

Man, his stats last night really did not do any justice to his play.

Loved what I saw from him last night.

if we play Jrue, JJ, BI, i wouldn't mind seeing Favors and Hayes in the lineup to see what happens.

Still have 3 scorers on the floor. How free could Hayes play without covering a big?
