It really doesn't make much sense. Griff said Zion crushed the cardio stress test when he joined the team:
LINK
Griff also said they have to limit how much he works out so he doesn't gain too much muscle.
How are both of those things true yet we see what we saw out of Zion on the court? Griff is a known optimist/exaggerator but those don't seem like things you can make up/overstate much.
It really is weird. But we saw him slowly play himself into shape. As long as he comes into camp healthy hopefully he'll be in a good place when the season starts.

Griffin calls Williamson a "freak of nature" and notes that when he went through his physical with the Pelicans, "he ran on the treadmill longer than the cardio-stress test people have ever needed to put anybody through a test to get his heart rate up."

B/c Griff is usually full of shite when he talks. I quit caring about what he says.

I've said it before on here but you'd be surprised the difference it makes for someone 260+ lbs to gain weight or be out of shape after changing a routine or not working out for even a few days. Way different than a 150 lb guard. Especially considering eating habits and etc...

So I agree with most of all you say. But the more I watched the bubble the worse he looked. Yes he got in better shape which might have made his stats look better or what not. But I was really watching him. He looked gimped up the whole playoffs. Just looked like something was off. I hope he comes back at full strength next season...
Right now Zion doesn’t need any muscle.. if he was my player he wouldn’t lift weights at all. Straight cardio and working on your joints and tendons. Maybe super low weights with high repetition. Lebron said he didn’t lift weights seriously until 24

I get him being huge and getting out of shape faster. But you can’t use eating habits and stuff like that to rationalize it. He needs to take better care of himself period

And that's really easy to say when you aren't a 20 year old coming off an injury, with everyone expecting you to be unstoppable, and under a lot of pressure while never doing any of this before. The great thing is he is 20 y/o and can now learn to adjust to everything with better habits/ schedules. After a full off season with everyone together it should be a lot more telling going forward.

The Pelicans had an amazing year. The most important part was that Zion looked good after a injury (yes he looked out of shape but a rookie putting up 20 a game while out of shape...can’t be mad)
Then we had Ingram turn into a freaking all star in the West at 22. Idk why this is slept on but if Ingram keeps growing like he did last year then the sky’s the limit for this squad. That’s all that matters. Screw ballin in the bubble. Give this team a healthy year under a competent coach then get back to me about having some kind of bad year

We received a package for AD that was light-years better than any package ever received for a disgruntled franchise guy.
What was the exact package the Celtics were willing to ship?

An amazing year?? Come on man. Y’all have one of the most loaded teams in terms of assets out there. But this was a reloading and rebuilding year. Your #1 draft pick was hurt half the season.
Yes Ingram got a whole lot better but y’all also found out Lonzo isn’t long term. Y’all had a the season you were expected to have. By no means was it amazing.

was worth it to the Lakers if they win the ship this year.
Trust me no one views this as a real ring.

The thing about the trade that pissed me off the most was AD playing through minor bumps and injuries. He acted ridiculous last season to tank the team. I am happy about the Pels going forward, but disappointed in AD the player after being a fan.

All about perspective. If you told me Zion would miss more than half the season beforehand I would think that team would be competing for a top 5 pick.
And I weigh Ingrams emergence heavy because the whole year was about development and they developed an all star in year 1 especially on the wing. Got the hardest thing to find in the nba in year 1 of a rebuild. Then had Zion successfully return from a knee surgery without any known setbacks while ballin offensively and learning. But I am a homer haha

Perspective?? You went into the season healthy... and your star rookie finished the season hurt looking like a fat young shaq hobbling you the court. Thats the perspective. He literally had trouble playing in the bubble... he wasn’t “ballin” and he looked like he has setbacks.
Ingram didn’t develop in 1 season.. dudes been in the league for a while now. Y’all didn’t unlock some hidden potential he just got more experience. Take your homer shades off and wake up to reality... the reality is Yiu had what you thought was a generational talent and you aren’t sure if he’ll ever be healthy or in good enough shape to play a full season.

I guess BI becoming an all star is at best neutral.

No one "develops in one season"...but:
Ingram's 3 point percentage and Free Throw shooting DRASTICALLY improved with the Pelicans. Its clear that working with Vinson helped and he has been "unlocked".

I guess we should just trade him to Philly then for Zhaire Smith.

He was literally the most improved player in the NBA.

His usage rate went up 10%....

Yeah start of the league year y’all were healthy with no injuries... I’m sorry you don’t know when the nba season starts. When you drafted Zion was he hurt??
Posted on 10/8/20 at 10:50 am to Fun Bunch
Why would you trade him for a rookie bust? I didn’t say that. Just that everyone thought way more highly of Zion’s potential at this point last year then they Do now... sorry you can’t take off your homer shades and realize that
