Im not sure this is just a slump. I think his legs are gone.

He looks slower. His passes are sloppier. He falls down twice as much as normal. Hes just....done i think.

I think it's a slump, or at least need to see more than 6-7 games of a slump to call it done.

Id say that too, if he was just missing 3s. Hes literally bad at almost everything right now.

Accidental downvote. I agree with you. Time to ship him to a contender for a piece we can use

The good thing about him though is that he can easily be traded to a good team that will think he can help.

Personally I think we will look back at this slump in a few weeks and just shrug our shoulders. He'll be fine.

last 2 games he's been more average: 23.5 MPG
9/19FG (47.4%), 6/14 3PT (42.9%), 5/5FT (100%)
14.5 PPG, 3 RPG, 2 APG, 1 TOV, 0.5 SPG, 0 BPG, 1 PF

He 100% needs to stop taking leaning 3s

He looks slower.

The unbiased computer eye says he's running pretty much the same speed as last season. LINK /

Year | Avg Spd | Avg Spd Off | Avg Spd Def
20-21 | 4.53 | 4.90 | 4.13
19-20 | 4.46 | 5.05 | 3.91

What's interesting here is even though he's running a little bit faster overall, he's definitely shifting some of his effort to defense. Is that what's causing the slump? It seems unlikely though, that's the kind of thing that would wear on you and tire you out during the game goes on, JJs been cold from the jump for all but the 2 good games he's had.

I think it's just a slump, if you were right and he's lost something physically, he'd actually be running slower and he'd probably have some good spurts when he was fresh.

Overall, I think he will be fine. The issue I have with the leaning 3's is he's been relying more on the dark arts of hunting for the foul with flopping on his 3's. He hasn't been getting those calls like in the past and it has led to some ugly attempts by him. Just go up and shoot JJ.

Have you watched him play over the years? That is part of his game and he is excellent at it.

Yes
except he's not getting calls and he's in a slump. get himself out of the slump with a NORMAL shot.

So a successful 15 year veteran is going to change the way he has played for most of his career simply because he is in a slump? Not going to happen.

He talked about this on his pod with Duncan Robinson.

I agree with him here, but he doesn't believe in changing anything in his game or preparation. All that stuff he does is why he's good. If he's not going to change anything in his game when it's going well, then logically speaking, it doesn't really make sense to change when it's not going well. Do what you do when it's working is the point.

Maybe he's done, in which case it doesn't matter much what he does, he's done. If it's a slump, don't change a darn thing, he'll come out of it.

JJ is turning 37 this year. I'm not saying he is washed but at some point you start slowing down physically and somewhat mentally as far as seeing the floor and getting to your spot on time.
If this is the type of slump he's in then i think he will get back to normal by the end of the year.

He just looks a little frazzled at times this year and has taken a few lonzo esque shots that i've seen him dump off or get a better look in the past.

I hope he comes out of his slump enough for us to get some assets for him before the deadline.
