Right. The window is now. We're years behind schedule, we can't keep punting seasons away.
But you can't trade for the sake of change either. I think the trades we make should have 1 goal in mind - getting more shooters on the floor. I'm not saying trade for more shooters, but if Jarrett Allen lets you play Trey more, then trade for Allen.
They also need to find a way to get Hawkins more minutes. Shamit pointed out Willie not playing him much with Jose and when you look at 2 man lineups, Hawkins gets the most minutes with Dyson and the least with Jose out of regular rotation players. That says you need a 2 way backup PG that is clearly better than Jose and Dyson and has enough size and defense to let Willie play Hawkins.

So now you’re more worried about the tax then winning championships? You do know you have to be in the tax to win right?
Wut?
Wut?
If we trade Nance/ Liddell/ Kira for Olynyk and add Matt Ryan + Robinson to the roster for the playoffs.
CJ/ Jose/ Dyson
Herb/ Hawkins/ Ryan
BI/ Naji /
Zion/ Trey/ Robinson
Val/ Olynyk/ Zeller
OMG we are under the tax and Nance is gone but now we can’t win a championship and the season is over. Wtf are you talking about

The nets suck, i wonder if we could get Trendon Watford from them.
Kira + EJ gets us out the tax and then we can sign matt ryan

shite we probably would have enough space to add Seabron to and have 15. Or add another center/ PF free agent.

Watford is barely an NBA player. He would sit on our bench.

The issue is that y’all are being obtuse and trying to breakdown every thing I say instead of putting it all together and seeing the big picture. Everything I’ve said has a benefit long term. Y’all are just wanting to make moves blindly.

He's much better than Kira or EJ, i'd rather him sit on our bench then them. Watford has been a solid bench piece for 3 years now

For sure. I like Val, but if your intent on keeping him, his positron on a championship contender is a big off the bench. He is just too slow to play in half court space with BI or Zion, although he could punish second units. Pels have the assets to pry a a mobile big that fits their timeline.

We are disagreeing because you consider moving or keeping Larry Nance a significant move…..
replacing Larry Nance with Olynyk for a few playoffs series giving Trey Murphy more playing time doesn’t hurt us in my opinion.
It’s at the very worst a wash and gets us under the tax.

The only single statement I made on your trade Nance proposal was...not even a statement, it was a question asking if you if Zeller would be inserted into the rotation. That's it.
So again, what you are saying about "blindly making moves" just isn't so, it's simply people thinking we should make win now moves and not make moves that have more of a focus, as you said, on the long term.

Lol my bad. Statement still stands for everyone else.

Exactly. The keeping Nance thing is basically he helps us win NOW. Unless you’re getting a significant upgrade it doesn’t make any sense to just dump Nance for salary implications.

Why do you keep saying Larry Nance is preventing Trey from playing more? Larry plays the 5. Trey plays the 4 and the 3.
The guys taking minutes from Trey right now are Herb and Dyson, who are playing 52 minutes a night combined. I'm sorry, i mean the guy taking minutes away from Trey is Willie for some dumb reason.
Herb and Dyson are averaging 10 minutes played together a game, which is ridiculous. We have a net rating of 1.5 when they share the court.

For the record, I'm not even against your trade idea with the players. I would say I'm against any trade made for the sake of getting under the tax.
I'm also against something like that being the only trade we make, or more to the point, explore. Meaning, if we enter trade deadline week, and our entire goal is get under the tax or make a small deal in the fringes, I don't like that.
I'm not for making a trade just for the sake of it, but I do think we should be exploring every big time player that is available provided the fit is there. For example, if Lavine is available, no thanks. But if other really good or even just good players are available and good fits, we need to be in those discussions and exploring what it would take to get those dudes and if we have to lose some draft picks or young guys we all like but improves our team right now, I'm all for that.
Now, if we have injuries or just flat out suck between now and the deadline and it's clear we're a 1st round out at best, then scrap everything I just said. But if we get to deadline week and we're still 1 game out of a 4 seed, it's time to explore going all in.

I agree with that point. But it is more than that. Larry Nance is not in the long term plan. This would atleast let us try more rotations with Trey/ Dyson/ Hawkins which is beneficial.

Larry is a 4/5. We need a backup 4 and a backup 5. We replace Nance with Treys minutes at the 4 and Olynyks minutes at the 5.
This isn’t rocket science.

I agree with Shel that, if our starters remain healthy, if Zion continues to improve, and if we're a top-5 team in the West at the deadline, we have to consider our window open and push our chips in. With another piece, we really would have a shot.
But beyond that, we are one of only two teams in the NBA to never pay the tax.
As we have discussed, the SKC is now one of the worst venues in the league. Without significant improvements, we are going to struggle to get all-star games, etc. Our new governor/legislature is going to be more budget-focused than previous state governments, and it's going to be a challenge to get the state to budget the funds for this (we all know that neither Gayle nor the city of New Orleans will be able to do it).
A deep playoff run for the Pels would really help generate public support for SKC renovations. And if Gayle is unwilling to invest in that and pay the tax, how can the Pels ask the state to invest?
And we will also be negotiating a new TV deal at the end of the season. How much that deal is worth will partly be determined by the level of fan interest and engagement. If we make a deep playoff run, the extra TV revenue might offset a lot of the luxury tax we'd pay.
In other words, there are a lot of reasons for this to be the year that we finally pay tax. If we're healthy and simply duck under the tax, no one is going to believe that we have what it takes to contend next season.

Larry plays few if any minutes at the 4 dude. He almost never plays the 4 and exclusively plays the 5. Not sure where you’re getting he plays the 4 and would free minutes for Murphy if traded?
