re: I'm completely dumbfounded how even ONE person could NOT like this deal

Demps brought us from below .500 to 7th playoff seed to trading CP3 with what little teams CP3 was interested in to get a bunch of solid players. I think he knows what the frick he is doing. Let's just let the rest of the offseason play out.

me too. he could be the real gem of the deal.

Im really excited about Dragic.
I am, too. I don't mind Martin, but he is overpaid. Odom and Scola are the ones that kill it for me. "Here, hang these contracts around your neck while you climb that mountain."

Considering how many pieces we got in this deal makes me confident in Demps's ability to keep making moves that'll make this team as good as we can be without Paul.
IMO Scola cancels out dumping Okafor.
Odom is an excellent player, but a prima donna on a completely different level. If you thought Paul made it hard to get value for him, wait until Odom refuses to go anywhere but Miami.
So we basically got Martin, Dragic, and picked up a couple of late draft picks.
We could have gotten a comparable talent to Martin for 12 million a year in FA.
Unless Demps hits a home run flipping Odom, I think this deal is terrible for even a malcontented star.

I have no sources, no inside knowledge, nothing.
But I would almost guarantee Odom gets moved.

I think he's a potential star. Not a superstar, maybe, but a hell of a player.

bunch of solid players
They are definitely solid, but they are overpaid and that is going to kill us.

What?
Dragic?
Not to mention, AGAIN, I"m guessing Demps isn't done dealing, and Odom will be next.

But what gives you confidence that they will be better?
what makes you think it will be worse?
look at our roster 3 hours ago. Consider we have 5 players on our roster who all suck, and our first game is in 2.5 weeks
now look at our roster now, as well as the 2 picks we just got.
Look, I am a season ticket holder. I think this deal makes us pretty damn competitive in the short term, and long term who knows? We've added picks, a few decent players that could have value to contending teams at deadline in the next few years.
anyone that says this is a bad deal right now is just stupid, considering what else was on the table and how CP3 had us by the balls.

we can trade Odom to anyone. he will have little power

It's far too early to judge this trade too positively or too negatively IMO.
Agree 100%. Kelly Dwyer's headline sums it up perfectly: Massive deal that raises heaps of questions.
The Hornets certainly recieved quality pieces, but they also gave up a top-5 player in the process. Not the worst start, but Demps clearly has a lot of work to do if this is going to lay a solid ground work for a sustainable future.

Pretty much. People think we still could've gotten elite young talent like Eric Gordon or Steph Curry. They don't realize that CP3, being the selfish prick he has turned out to be, told those teams to go frick themselves, thus fricking the Hornets on any of those trades.

He's definitely not done dealing and who knows what happens next. I'm feeling pretty fricking good, all things considered.

This was a terrible trade. And this is not a good thing:
Who the frick cares about the 7th seed in the playoffs? The Hornets now have a bunch of overpaid guys who aren't young. They don't have any upside. They are positioned to be a low lottery/ high seed in the playoffs for a couple of years with no young guys to offer any additional ceiling.
A second point: While I and many fans only care about winning (which this trade does not put the Hornets in position to do), this isn't exactly going to sell a lot of folks on the Hornets. There is not one guy on this team that sells tickets. It is a bunch of guys not quite at all star level getting paid like all stars.

95% of the contracts signed after a player's rookie deal are horrible. Its the NBA. wake up.
like i said earlier, Scola signed a deal last year and then had a career year. At least we have someone that will play hard and produce in the near future.
Kevin MArtin can score 25 on any given night. Those guys aren't cheap

I did, so go frick yourself. We are not the Lakers. We will not be a top seed every year. We took the Lakers to 6 games, for Christ's sake. If you want perennial powerhouses then stop being a Hornets fan douche.

Peja's expiring and 2011 1st(Bayless) for Jack and Andersen
Brackins and Songaila's expiring for Willie Green and Jason Smith
This deal

That Jack trade was done to appease Chris Paul and Bayless had not fit in well.
Besides, you can also thank George Shinn who was hemorrhaging money and desperately needed to get under the luxury tax for those trades you cited.

And letting Paul walk for nothing then watching this team in the dumps for a few years would sell tons of tickets?
