This team is garbage. At least when Monty was here, we improved every single season since acquiring Davis and reached the playoffs. As bad as that 4th Q meltdown was, in hindsight Curry is just really that amazing. The team played hard for him and Davis shined in his role under Monty's system. This Gentry-coached team is a joke and there's no excuse to suck with our roster. Monty proved that last season by winning nearly 50 games in the west.

Not sure if Monty was the answer either, but we sure as hell could have done better than Gentry.

Agreed. And he should've had another year to see if he could build off getting them into the playoffs last year.

If Jeff Van Gundy or Thibs was the HC, we'd most likely not be saying that.

But I was wrong as well.

No you weren't. With where he was in his contract Monty needed to be upgraded, and there were 2 Monty upgrade candidates available in JVG and Thibs.

Actually the roster is the excuse. Look at the Spurs, they haven't been supremely talented the last several years with that ancient core, they're just supremely good at what they do. We don't have the unselfish, high IQ guys to run that kind of system. Gentry got a 4 year deal, he's not going anywhere any time soon, so they need a better PG and more guys like QPon.

Give this team Curry, Thompson, and maybe Barnes, and I promise that we get better.

I didn't think Monty deserved to be fired after making the playoffs. At least his teams played better by only allowing 98 ppg. Gentry's team is allowing 108 ppg.

The bad thing about Gentry is that he is a retread that has a losing record. It's one thing to hire a guy that is a retread but at least has a winning record but to go out and hire a guy that really has only one good year in a dozen years was plain stupid.

Anybody could be a good coach with Curry. Demps was fooled.

I guarantee that this club would have more wins right now under Monty then under Gentry. This arse clown needs to be fired now!!

Gentry Era has been a disaster thus far. Doesnt mean it cant or wont work, but a spade is a spade.

Yet, Monty wasn't and still isn't the answer.

The roster, regardless of coach, was never more than a 2nd round team, at best. That is the famous "treadmill of mediocrity." With a guy like Davis, that simply isn't good enough. KG 2.0 comp alright.

Monty does come out looking better than before. Take the defense; I felt it was mostly his schemes that needed fixing. Erman has a track record and reputation on that side. It's as bad as ever. To me, that points more towards personnel than coaching. To be clear, I'd still have Erman running a defense over Monty, but it certainly appears to be much deeper than Monty on that side. Would JVG or even Thibs have been able to right that ship?

I am curious about something you've said a few times, ATL. JVG wanted the roster overhauled. Where did you read/hear that? Any specifics beyond that?

It's only from his comments during the few games he covered. He said they weren't a playoff team and clearly wasn't impressed with the roster. He never went into specifics, but his famous "dumb gets you beat" quote makes me think Tyreke would have been at the top of his list of players to not retain. As has been well documented, Tyreke might be the player Demps is most invested in because of the ripple effects acquiring him created.

JVG stated that the roster was broken and would need work.

Gentry stated that the roster is great and Dell is a master roster builder.

Uncle Alroy gets hired. Quality echo chamber you've got there, Dell.

I was definitely critical of Monty and rightfully so, but I wasn't a fan of this hire from the start. I'm not sure what people expected from gentry. Numbers don't lie and a losing record is very telling as a head coach. Yeah Monty definitely had his faults but we also didn't have Ryan Anderson fully healthy the past two years and jrue had played about 50 total games up until this season. This might currently be the healthiest roster we've had in a while and they look undisciplined and unmotivated.
