Dude had an option to be sole owner of the Hornets for like $400 million total and passed.

We all lost as well though bc he would have likely kept the iconic Hornets name here in New Orleans.

He was a true fan which would have been good but he didn’t buy the team because he supposedly was only willing to invest a certain amount of his fortune in the team. I think the Pels ended up with the best possible owner in the end. Enough resources to invest in the team and a related business to know how to run it well.

I remember Shinn had to dump the team quick.

Chouest was likely considering it, but same week all this was happening BP spill occurred. There were lots of questions about offshore moratorium and regulations - people were getting laid off - timing wasn’t good. It really wasn’t a choice he could make.

does Gary still sit courtside?

random thought: what about the really short guy who was also always courtside... i recall seeing him a lot more often in the hornets days...where is that guy and who was he?

Given all that happened, he wasn’t in a position to pull it off. But at the time, I
hoped he might be the guy ( a huge fan) to buy, save and keep the team in N.O. Stern wanted big time money and stability behind the franchise. I also think a re-branding from the Hornets to another name and image was inevitable. If we had knocked off the Spurs and advanced in 2008, I’d have been disappointed that the name was changed. That season was the most fun I’ve had following a team. I still remember watching the final regular season game(when they clinched the division) at the bar at the Bourbon House because I let a paralegal use my tickets. What a great year that was.CP3, West, Chandler and, yep, Pargo.

We never wanted to be the Hornets in the first place. Why would we want to keep that?

And the hornets name belongs in Charlotte as much as the jazz name belongs here. We don’t have to be shitty about it like Utah. I’m glad we gave them back their name.

I'm just glad I don't have to hear Let's Go Bees chants about fricking Hornets anymore. It would be like us quacking like ducks now.

It always annoyed me that they called it “the hive” when hornets lived in nests.

Yea Charlotte deserves to be the Hornets. And yes, it woulda been nice to be the jazz again. Just wish we woulda went with the Voodoo when we rebranded. Perfect name for Nola and the merch woulda have been top selling every year. Pretty sure we at the bottom yearly with the Pels.

I wanted to go with the Rougarou because it would be completely unique the area. But i also understand noone out side of here would really know what a Rougarou was.

I've worked with his companies (not for) over the years and in my opinion, seeing as how things are run there, the guy is too cheap to be a successful majority owner. I think we dodged a bullet.

And just to clarify, I don't necessarily blame him. It's a business where you sometimes have to be less profitable to be successful and there aren't many billionaires who are wired that way. They don't want to make less money if they don't have to.

Chouest would’ve been a terrible owner in comparison. He doesn’t have the bankroll and his business is too cyclical. We’d constantly here about Seattle if he was the owner and not spending.

Gayle has shut that shite down.
