I didn’t get to see the game last night but saw Herb had a good game. Was he playing the 5 role we started seeing him at again?

He's the smartest basketball player on this team.

And it's not even close. Amazing how many people can't see this by on the court action. WG figured it out...long ago.

Was interesting last night to see Herb used a bit at the "dunker's spot". Pels will eventually have to decide whether to give up on Herb's 3-pt shot or not...and if they DO give up...then, which of about 5 different options they go to next...to try & make Herb fit BEST...on the offensive end of the court.

In my opinion, for herb to be effective on offense, he needs to have the ball a lot more.

As previously stated, he's very smart, usually makes the right plays/reads, can drive to the rim, and hit free throws.

Corner herb is not good herb.

He did and should get credit. All these trade Herb takes are nuts. Pels need good backups for Zion and BI. I’d peruse those options w/o sacrificing BI, Zion of course, as well as, Herb, Dyson, TM3 and surprisingly Hayes (takes a while to develop Bigs), Warrors have 3 rings with Looney… lol

Good points. And, forgive me for getting a bit nit-picky, but "corner Herb" would probably be the next option the Pels try when/if they give up on "3-pt line Herb" which is where they are at the moment...and which is, by far the outcome they would most like to see occur...since it would be best for the Pels overall offense. Just inherently too many downsides to using a full blown "corner 3", such as PJ Tucker even though it naturally leads to a better 3-pt % when 90% of your 3s are true "corner 3s".

Pels are currently going for the cheese with Herb...by giving him every opportunity to improve his 3-pt shot & letting him take them on an almost even number of times...from all 4 standard quadrants. Basically, he shoots 1/2 of his 3s from the 2 corners & the other 1/2 from the 2 "breaks".

Pels obviously think there is HUGE defensive value in finding a way to keep Herb on the court, even with his current offensive problems. JMO...they will continue to bend over backwards to find a way to make it work. As you said, given Herb's (so far unnoticed by most) ball-handling abilities...I am very optimistic Herb will eventually turn out to be a VERY valuable overall asset for the Pels.

PS: Believe it or not, I almost started another paragraph but caught myself so...consider yourself lucky. I have been known to get a bit long-winded.

In some ways it feels like Herb and Dyson NEED to be in more of a PG role for the team. It minimizes their weaknesses and CJ/BI/Zion are all capable play finishers.

Bingo, additionally it relives stress, wear and tear off BI, Zion, and CJ. In general, the pivot is the hardest position to master mentally and the point position is the toughest to master physically. Point sets pace, probes, drives the ball, backs out to reset the offense and generally has to guard the opposing point who is doing the same thing.

Like the Pistol said...BINGO. I think, as strange as it might sound, the Pels would absolutely luv for Dyson & Herb to develope into our "1" & "2" guards...if we can just get at least one of them to that magic 36% 3-pt shooting...when needed.

Herb is good at everything minus 3 point shooting.

He could improve his rebounding too but it’s adequate.

People saying he’s regressed offensively have been wrong all year. He’s regressed from 3. Everything else is better

FWIW, at the beginning of the season, he was getting a lot of dumb fouls. He's definitely cut the back now and has improved again, though.

His stats are almost identical to last season but he's a lot less efficient.

I tend to always be optimistic on Herb...so I think you might get your wish on Herb's rebounding #s from this point forward. He is our most important "get back" guy to prevent transition baskets so his offensive rebounding has been limited to basically what we call "drive-by" rebounding where he stands in the corner on O...then when a teammate shoots he runs at an angle toward the foul line and if the rebounds comes off long he is in one of the long rebounding "slots". So many 3s being taken has led to the increased importance of these "slots". Still gives him a head start on "getting back" but at least a chance, for those long rebounds.

Point is...lately...he seems to be going in much more deeply & aggressively for the offensive boards. I can only assume he has been told to do this. Should lead to better rebounding #s for Herb on the offensive end...and imo...so far, so good...when you look at the #s.

Seeing it now. Herb needs to do dribbling drills like a madman this summer and get his handle tight af.

If Herb was out there handling the ball like Rondo, handing out plates for BI, Trey and CJ….bruhh

Herb and Dyson should be primary ball handlers (with Zion out).

Teams can't effectively guard CJ and BI both off ball and it is much harder to double up on them when they are moving off ball.

Agreed with pretty much every thing said in that we are better off when he is aggressive and plays as a distributor rather than sitting on the three point line. Using him like Draymond is absolutely the right path forward.

Only problem with that style is Herb lacks about 25-30lbs on Draymond (he actually has about an inch more standing reach so weight/strength is the main thing).

All of our wings are pretty light to play the 4 (even Naji who is the heaviest) and extremely light to try and play the 5. As we've seen, it can work ok against teams that aren't using a traditional big, but when healthy Larry/Jax are the much better small ball 5s.

That’s a problem across the board with the Pels, they’re all 15-30lbs light (except Zion) for the way Coach Green wants them to play. They’re young and have the frames to carry additional weight but right now get big-boy’d a lot. Pels really need to do a top down on their training/strength and conditioning programs.

Sorry, I meant more of a rebounder and push the pace, often run the offense type of player rather than as a small ball 5. He could put on some muscle and become that though.
