Dyson is slightly better on-ball but is worse everywhere else defensively and is a much worse offensive player who can't be played in crunch time of a big game.

Dyson is an elite on ball and off ball defender. Herb is a good defender but it’s not even close. Dyson is also a better rebounder. Just a way better all around athlete. And younger. So yes when the trade happened 2 seasons ago I thought we were crazy to trade Dyson.

Herb is an elite off ball defender and much more impactful as a team defender than Dyson. Dyson is better onball but that does not stop Atlanta from being a piss poor defensive team. Teams can attack other guys away from Dyson with very good success whereas Herb plays free safety and impacts the floor.

LOL you have no clue what your talking about, Dyson and elite off ball defender lol. Herb is a better all around defender dude makes up for so many mistakes and is all ways in the right spot. And your worst take of all saying Dyson is a better athlete than Herb have you ever watch Dyson play dude is not athletic at all calling him a better athlete over a dude that has a highlight reel of closing out and blocking 3 point shoots is laughable.

And I get the age difference, but Dyson has shown almost nothing shooting-wise and by this age, you typically see something. He can't hit FTs.

Prove me wrong.

Why would we ever play 4 v 5 on offense for more than one play at a time?

Luv to discuss the Herbster just about anytime...but I gotta assume you're not being serious...so I'm just gonna take a pass on this one. Come back with something that makes a bit more sense... and maybe we can have a discussion.

Agree with all of this. It would have been better long term by trading Herb instead of DD. We probably save a draft pick in that situation. Dyson for 30mil vs Herb for 22mil is a tough call but I'd probably lean Dyson. If in hindsight that also would include getting an extra draft pick back then yeah its really not much of an argument

We gave up not one but two firsts along with DD for Murray. Hawks wanted Herb slot more supposedly. Probably would have saved us both firsts.

Like I said before, it was a stupid trade, and I would have hung on to both. Or for something better than Murray anyway.

I guess all the guys whose career it is to cover the nba and the gms around the league that think DD is the best perimeter defender in the league are wrong and the posters on this site that said DD was overrated, bad, and thought we took the Hawks to the cleaners last offseason are right lol.

I think a lot of people wrote off Herb after the injury and abysmal season. Outside of the 2023-2024 season Herb hasn't really been all that great offensively. Bad enough to where teams willingly leave him open because they value him taking that shot and missing opposed to literally anyone else in the starting 5.

I know folks have a folk lore love for Herb, buts lets not get too zesty here and be logical.

You do realize that Herb was first team all defense the year we traded Dyson? He was the only non big defender on that all defense team literally making him the best perimeter defender in the league. It's like Herb got injured and some people forgot what he is capable of.

It was impossible to play Herb and Dyson together for long stretches because they are both limited offensively. Herb was under contract and is now extended at literally half of what Dyson will want on his next contract. Dyson was always going to get traded. From a team building standpoint, keeping the $15 million All Defense perimeter defender makes much more sense than the $30 million one. If you want to complain about the return, especially with the injury, that is a different argument.

Also, only one of these guys can be played in crunch time of a playoff game and that's Herb. DD is too big of a liability (specifically at the FT line) to do so.

Braun just got 5/125. There's no way Dyson's camp is going to accept anything less than 140. I bet he's headed into RFA. The Hawks are in a tough spot. Young is up for an extension as well and they may want to keep Porzingis if he plays well this year. The Daniels contract demand is going to put them in a tough spot.

Wow. Color me shocked. Didn't think he'd accept anything near that low.
