Pelicans were the only team to finish top 10 in defensive rating (6th) and not have a single player receive at least 1 first place vote.

Ask the other players and coaches.

This is the right answer, but have to serve the media their graft for promoting the game. In fairness, some of the media/analysts are fairly astute when it comes to basketball but way too many are just highlight huckleberries. Throw out a gritty face, flop a bit, and make Pat Bev-like hustle plays that don't result in winning and you get a vote .... lol

Herb Jones is twice the defender Dillon Brooks is, and that’s not even an exaggeration

I was pretty impressed with the list, until I saw the rest of the list

Yeah DSJ was solid for the Hornets the last half of the season

Part of the reason why we even made the play in is bc DSJ kept torching the Mavericks and made them ultimately give up on the season.

The problem is even though Herb plays the 2 for us, as far as awards are concerned he’s classified as a forward, so he’s competing with JJJ, Mobley, OG and Draymond.

If they classified him as a G then he would’ve made it, but the NBA is dumb.

This link suggests that Herb was classified as a guard in the voting system.

I consider myself to be a big Herb Stan, but for the 1st half of the season, Herb wasn't passing the All-Nba defense candidate eye test. He just wasn't elite like last season. He turned it on the final 3rd of the season but his first 2/3rds were not up to the standard we are accustomed to

this board mentioned the herb fall off the first half of season. first impressions matter.

I hate brooks.
he "campaigned" for all D the previous year.
I would have Davis and Giannis ahead of Brooks.
I suppose they missed too many games.

This team was getting blown out in almost every national game and were up in arms for missing out on awards? Ok.

Except the people who vote on these things actually watch those games.

Didn’t see that, they must have changed it because for All Star voting he was listed with the forwards. PG and JB was listed with forwards also and they have them as guards there.

This attitude shows why it's fair to blame Zion's injury for Herb's failure to make All-Defense.

No one pays attention to small-market teams, unless they do well in the playoffs. If we had been a top-3 seed and won a playoff series, then there's no question that Herb makes it.

It’s the market.

Jrue is our go to example. Hes made the def team every year he’s been in Milwaukee.

twice!
memphis was perceived as very good on defense.
brooks was part of it.
I expect great things from herb. but...
twice as good! this twice! reminds me of stories on the political board where something that just happened before our very eyes is called IMPOSSIBLE by a partisan propagandist.

He solidly made the playoffs every season since he's been there. It's about team success as much as it is about individual success. Market definitely plays a role and that's why Caruso was selected even though they were mediocre and bad as a whole on defense.

Milwaukee isn't that much bigger than New Orleans. It's because they're a top seed every season.

Give me a fricking break, Alex Caruso is not a first team fricking defender.

Caruso is #2 in the entire league for DBPM; he absolutely deserves to be first team.
