re: Give me your top 3 that you want for Pels at 8 spot

Neither Hart nor Dort are fleet of foot. Both move their feet well enough to use their body strength to bust screens and hedge offensive player movement. Jose is a great on-ball defender (I think Kira has the makings too) but both will wear down from running through a maze of screens. CJ has to be helped if he’s playing 30+ minutes.

3. Johnny Davis--He's just a really good scorer with competent defense. He could be a CJ replacement one day.
I’m really not understanding the Davis love. He doesn’t have elite length, hes unathletic and can’t shoot. He seems like a good basketball but player doesn’t have any exciting qualities that lead me to believe he has a high ceiling. I don’t see how he’d get any playing time on this team at all.

Shocking to see how highly everyone here thinks of Sharpe.
Considering we know next to nothing about his game vs any decent level competition.
I guess that's the allure of mystery.

I'll take Sochan off and add Mathurin.

I think you are right, but I’m still tempted to draft a guy who can hit threes and knock down fts late.
How many damn games did we lose or almost lose bc we couldn’t hit a FT? Or how many times did we need a 3 to send a game into OT and the opposition swarmed our 2 good three point shooters and we either got a terrible shot off or no shot off at all?
Someone like Matthy can help us in these areas now and he still has that high upside star power that could develop later on.

I actually like Sochan too, just don’t think we need another big wing.

need
I rebuke this word from this draft board in the name of Dan Dickau. Please stop with the “need” stuff. We are not a damn top 2 seed that “needs” a piece. JUST GET TALENT

Sochan has a lot of useful tool in his bag, but with Zion back, where is he going to play? Murphy, Jaxson and Hayes will also get minutes. You could swing Murphy like BI to the backcourt but his handle needs a lot of work.

1) Shaedon Sharpe - Best wing in draft, may not see it year 1 but love his game. Nothing he cannot do but there is busy potential which Pels may want to avoid but can afford to risk.
2) Dyson Daniels - Having a larger playmaker is important with the number of smaller guards we have. Different potential look.
3) Ben Mathurin / Ochai Agbaji - Higher floor role player guys in the mold of Cam Johnson pick PHX made a few years ago. Won't change dynamic but provide cheap depth at important position.
Trade back options: AJ Griffin (do not love guys who profile as good defenders but do not defend well, feel comfortable late lotto but not at 8), Jeremy Sochan (worried about jumper actually improving), Tari Eason (not sure what ROLE he plays, was not great without consistent touches), Mark Williams (if Hayes is on way out, Williams feels like the next 10+ year starting 5 man in the NBA)

If you only watch college basketball and not these guys before they get to college then I would agree. Not many here may be as heavy into summer basketball as others but some of us are (and have to be).

I’m not overly concerned with Sochan getting minutes in year 1, but I think he could easily beat out both Jaxson and Hayes for minutes at the 4/5.

Isn't jaxson and hayes the same person?

How can you put any stock in his highschool tape?
Sharpe was just a massively better athlete then these kids. Even then he shot what 36% from 3(not THAT great), struggled to get separation due to his lack of lateral agility(shows up again in his pro day), and played POOR defense.
What's the difference between Sharpe and Hardy? Hardy looked ALL-WORLD in highschool as well.
Look what happened when he played against professional grown arse men equally as athletic. (now a fringe first kinda guy)
Go look at Emoni Bates. ALL-WORLD coming out of highschool. His freshman year at Memphis was so bad he wouldn't get drafted.
Sharpe is about to go from his most recent Highschool game being over a year ago to NBA level competition.

If Sharpe is there, he's the obvious choice. Ceiling is just too high. But for now, I'm gonna assume he's gone before we pick. So with that said, my top 3 would be, in no particular order:
1. Johnny Davis- The more I dig into him, the more I want him to be the pick. His competitive nature and leadership is absolutely top notch. He's an incredible and crafty finisher at the rim. Great mid-range game. Very good defender, on-ball and off-ball. His three point shot is okay, but needs some work. But with his mindset and work ethic, I have no doubts he'll become atleast an above average shooter from deep. I think people are sleeping on Davis. He could become our 6th man scorer off the bench pretty early on and replace CJ in the starting lineup in a couple years when CJ's deal is up. Probably the best creation ability in the top 10, besides Paolo. Great prospect.
2. Benedict Mathurin- Another guy who is a great competitor and has a alpha mentality. Those things are really important to Griff, so I expect our pick to have those intangibles that he loves and Mathurin, like Davis, absolutely does. He is probably the 2nd best shooter in the top 10, only behind Jabari Smith. Mathurin isn't just a catch and shoot guy like AJ Griffin though, Mathurin is an excellent movement shooter. He's great coming off screens, dribble handoffs, one dribble pull-ups, etc.. I could see him and Zion really having a great 1-2 game together, kinda like he did with JJ early on. And Mathurin is an amazing athlete. He's great in transition and cutting to the rim. Dude has some incredible slams that can shift the momentum and he single handedly changed the course of many games for Zona this year. I think he has the tools to be a very good defender, but he's not there yet. But with his mentality and tools, I think he will be a good defender since he won't be asked to carry his team offensively like he was in college. Needs to work on his handles and shot creation. That's where Davis has him beat, but Mathurin is the better athlete and shooter.
3. Dyson Daniels- this kid has grown on me so much. He may have the highest floor of any of the guards/wings in the lottery, while also having a very high ceiling. He is already a very talented defender. One of the only non big-men to average a block a game. I love that. With all the small guards we have (CJ, Jose, Kira and Graham) we really need a guard with size and defensive prowess. Daniels is also a good playmaker for others. The thing people knock on him is his shot and athleticism, but he tested very well at the combine and his shooting form looks excellent and he shot like 45% from three for the last 6 games of the season. I am not worried about his shot. He also has a really nice floater. This kid fits a need and has a high ceiling. I'd love to have him.
So those would be my top 3 choices, for the guys I think will be there. We take any of them and I'm thrilled.
Really the only guys I'd be upset with are Griffin or one of the bigs like Duren or Williams. Rim protecting 5's aren't a premium position anymore, so I don't want to use a top 10 pick on one. Especially one that can't stretch the floor.
Take a wing and let's win some rings!

Realistically, unless someone unexpected falls,
Mathurin
Daniels
Davis
I’d be happy with any of those three. Think all three are excellent fits for this team in different ways.

The Duren people won’t like this but I totally agree. Rim protectors are useful for certain matchups but their benefit fades in the playoffs. Most of the best teams do it with solid wings. There are only a handful of elite big men and it doesn’t make sense to use prime assets on a niche role.

1. Keegan Murray --with Dyson Daniels moving up in some mocks, he has dropped as low as 7...so far.
