Yep

It's usually 3 days bereavement pay, but most places will let you take longer and either use your PTO or don't get paid for it based on policy, but regardless, they'll give you the time off that you need.

Maybe it’s generational. Players from the Bird, Magic, Jordan era just didn’t leave their teams during the season for personal reasons up to and including the birth of a child or death of a family member. A day or two maybe, but the “my dad, mom uncle” would want me to play” was a staple story in those days. Not saying it was better, but do think there was a deeper commitment to the team then during the season.

I certainly give my employees as much time as they need, but they aren't getting paid $208,000 per game.

What does it matter what he makes per game lol? Everyone is different when it comes to trauma. For all we know he could of been super close to his mother and her death destroyed him. Things like that can traumatize you and completely change your perspective on life, even playing for the shitty pelicans

The guy should have millions and not be living paycheck to paycheck. If he wants to take off to deal with it good for him.

I believe he should take as much time as he wants. His contract is an issue between he and the organization. It is stupid to criticize him or rush him back.

Maybe today some people have more communication and are closer than 30 years ago. Also basketball was a way of life for those guys because they didn't have as many modern day distractins.

As much time as he wants? What if it's a month? What if it's the rest of the season? Of course this can't stay open-ended -- unless we really do want to tank. I mean, I don't think that anyone can dispute that we would've won the two OKC games if he'd played, and the morale around the team is such that we really need him back. He's our 2nd-highest-paid player and, without Zion, is desperately needed.

he should be given a reasonable amount of time that he needs, that is a given.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. 3 days paid.

I am not saying that Favors needs to play tomorrow. I am saying that the open-ended period should be over, and there should be a plan for when he is going to rejoin the team.

All they had to do was come out with an official statement saying he’s out indefinitely due to personal reasons and be done with it. But they keep dancing around these issues.

Andrew Lopez tweet just now:

He was very, very close with his mother. In fact, she was at the arena the last home game or two before she passed away.

Team is giving him all the time he needs to gather himself and get back to playing basketball.

I thought I read that she passed away 11/26 and was only in her mid-50s. May have been sudden and unexpected. Sad.

This.

These people are psychos.

Nobody gives a frick about how this would be handled at your 9-5. No idea why sports fans always do this.

It’s not unusualfor a coach to allow a player to grieve in his own time. He’ll be back when he’s ready.

Exactly. It's selfish to say otherwise. The classy thing to do is let him take the time he needs and be there for him. Losing a parent sucks. He is young. Dude isn't even 30. It would be like me losing my mom right now considering Favors and I are the same age. I would be a mess. Basketball would be the furthest thing from my mind. I lost my father when I was 13 and to this day it fricks with me at times. Losing my mom would be another world of hurt because she means so much to me and has been the mother and father figure in my life being that she never re-married. He didn't have a father in his life at all, just his mom. He didn't even know who his dad was until he was 18. He'll be fine, it just takes time. Fans need perspective on this. This is more than basketball and people grieve differently.

I went back and re-read the thread, and exactly zero people have criticized Favors.
