Funny watching teams rise past the Pelicans repeatedly

So many teams have bottomed out and rebuilt to be playoff contenders while the Pelicans have remained in the gutter year after year.
At some point you accept this is a conscious choice and not repeated bad luck.

This franchise was doomed the minute Tom Benson bought them. He gave them this horrible rebrand that is a joke, and he merged their business which the Saints which is poverty as frick. It didn't seem like a bad idea to try and tap into some "synergy" (sorry) but it clearly has been a terrible move that has the Pelicans look, feel, and act like the little brother.
With all this said, I'm not angry at Benson and he is one of the greatest New Orleanians in history. But he botched the NBA thing pretty badly.

Are you aware how “poverty” the franchise was under Shinn?
They were about a half step from the team being dissolved by being unable to make payroll at one point IIRC. The league stepped in to help them continue before he turned the entire team over to them.
How many buyers other than the Bensons were even going to consider the team? Bollinger was announced as the buyer at one point before pulling out.

Drafting Zion was the final nail in the coffin for this unserious franchise

We’ve had a few playoff teams and loads of talents. The main problem is our health and training staff sucks! Every year our team gets a boatload of injuries. Our star players are ALWAYS injured from Baron Davis to Chris Paul to AD to Zion. The same could be said for our best role players.
We are doomed until we take that seriously. It’s even happening to the Saints too.

Chris Paul was not “always injured”. He had one season where he played 45 games, the rest were 65+.
Recently our problem is that our star players are either huge pussies (AD), or haven’t taken their career seriously (Zion). Throw in injuries, bad coaching, bad GM’ing, and there you go, we get passed.

The Houston Rockets are a good example, but we have not bottomed out like they did. They were the worst team in the West for 3 straight years before becoming a .500 team, then a good team this year.
Similar situation for Detroit. They've been one of the worst teams in the NBA for several years in a row prior to this season.
We were nearly a .600 team last year.
