So I'm not overracting if I say:

We have our center for the future.

Of course you are. He wasn't good enough to play in the nba a couple of years ago. Let's see if he can play well consistently.

Most of his time came against Joel Friedland from what I remember. Again, I think he'll do fine as a backup center, and hopefully he can help reduce Jason Smith's minutes.

:sigh:

First, this roster remains a work in progress, so it's hard to pin down its ultimate "personality" or style of play.

Second, the greatest and saddest waste of talent in recent years would be to stick AD with a traditional C's role. Horrible.

Third, run and gun offenses are fun and can make some noise during the season and the first round of the playoffs. I'm not aware of an NBA champion that couldn't play lock down D to some degree when necessary.

Fourth, did someone in this tread that San Antonio can not or does not play defense anymore?

That's not what I said at all.

It's not a work in progress. It is what it is at this point. They are built to score. But again, if you guys want to keep forcing Jason Smith and Aminu out there, that's fine. Clearly it's working.

Did I say he should spend the rest of his career there? I just mean specifically for the team they have this year. If they bring in someone like Asik, or another decent big man, then we can talk.

By the way, Amare Stoudemire's best years were playing center, and he wasn't half the defensive player Davis is. It can work on a certain type of team. But I guess sucking is better for you guys than emulating a team that was playing in Western Conference Finals and contenders for titles every year.

Is this team competing for a title this year either way? I wasn't aware that if they played that way this year, because their roster is best suited for that, that means they have to play that way forever. But you guys are all right and I'm wrong. No need to change anything. This team is fine. Stick Ajinca in at starting center and watch this team soar.

I am glad we picked him up and if he can not start for us, he can be a legit back-up center that we got for free. Pretty much a draft pick that we never had and he is 25!

and Davis belongs at the 4 if you want to get the most out of him. He can play center if you put a quick line up.

“I thought I played well,” Ajinca said. “I got lost a couple times on offense, because I don’t really know the plays, but I’m going to get that right, (working) with the team and the coaches. But I was happy about the way I played.”

Interestingly, Ajinca – who was playing in his first official NBA game since April 13, 2011 – was twice called for offensive fouls on screens that may not have been whistled as infractions during his 2008-11 stint in the league. This season, NBA officials changed their interpretation governing pick-setting, something Ajinca was not aware of until after he picked up the two fouls. His three total personal fouls sent him to the bench in the first half; he ended the game with five fouls.

“I was a little bit frustrated about the fouls,” Ajinca said. “Some of the fouls on screens, I didn’t understand where the foul was, but it was because of the new rule (interpretation) that I guess my feet were too wide. I didn’t know that one. I’ve just got to get used to it and understand what I can and can’t do. After it happened, Jason (Smith) told me. It’s something I have to get used to and be careful with those things.”

...“I was very confident on the court,” said Ajinca, who also had four points on 2-for-4 shooting vs. the Trail Blazers. “I started to see that the game is not that different compared to Euroleague. I was just getting used to playing at that level. It was great for me.”

I think most of his minutes came against former Euroleaguer Joel Friedland, the training wheels will be coming off tonight trying to keep up with Demarcus Cousins.

i think this whole "who the minutes came against" is a bit much. it was in the nba against the arguably the best team in the league. i mean, dude is 7'2'' 250! he is not the same player with the cliche' profile from years ago. his game and stats will benefit from less euro long-ball. ......"THE BIG PICTURE"

He said the NBA wasn't much different than Euroleague, and he played a lot against a long time Euroleaguer. It's not like I'm ripping the guy, I was legitimately excited with what I saw because 1) He's ginormous but doesn't move like he's ginourmous and 2) he appears to have left the soft label in the past. He wasn't a bruiser or anything, but he didn't look afraid to mix it up.

The English translation of Ajinca is "championship".
