feel confident that Dyson's never coming close to Herb's shooting

Stats along with myself would say these takes are retarded. Let's take a look shall we??

Herb:
.33% 3pt .53% 2pt 23 y/o
.33% 3pt .53% 2pt 24 y/o
.41% 3pt .56% 2pt 25 y/o
.30% 3pt .53% 2pt 26 y/o

Dyson:
.31% 3pt .49% 2pt 19 y/o
.31% 3pt .55% 2pt 20 y/o
.34% 3pt .54% 2pt 21 y/o

Interesting....

.33% 3pt .53% 2pt 24 y/o
.34% 3pt. .54% 2pt 21 y/o

Statistically speaking DYSON IS ALREADY A BETTER OFFENSIVE PLAYER THAN HERB 2 1/2 YEARS YOUNGER.

And he's averaged DOUBLE the amount of steals per their career average.

I hate y'all sometimes. Not for being ignorant but for defending ignorant points with literally 0 stats or defense.

61% 1.2 FTA Dyson 22 y/o

82% 2.2 FTA Herb 26.5 y/o

This is where we draw the line? Dyson is a worse player because he only makes 60% of his (1) FT a game?

Dyson would still have 1 1/2 years to get 82% which would be comparable to Herb's rookie year. So y'all should be terrified with that defense if the guy averages 2 FTs a game.....

Again just absolutely stupid.

There's no real argument as to Herb being a better defender than Dyson.

There's no real argument that Herb is a certified better offensive player than Dyson.

And there's really no statistical stats pointing towards Herb having a better career than Dyson.

Herb is the hometown bias guy. Doesn't really matter what the truth is, mouthbreathers will blindly take his side.

Just like y'all would rather keep Jose > upgrade. Not because another player isn't better but because "we just blindly love him so much".

OK...I'll try to explain why some people overvalue "age" when comparing how "good" they expect an NBA player to eventually be...especially nowadays...when there are SO many kids entering the NBA at 3 or 4 years younger than somebody like Herb Jones.

NBA evaluators have been trying to adjust their thinking in this area...since they have been swamped with very young kids entering the NBA. It's not the easiest thing to do...but rest assured...NBA teams are spending a bunch of time and money trying to arrive at a way to compare "apples to apples"...when it comes to this disparity in age...among players entering the NBA.

I'll try to keep this as simple as I can. Herb Jones...for instance, was absolutely HORRIBLE offensively when he entered college...NOT bad....HORRIBLE. Four years later...he was still absolutely HORRIBLE. IF he had somehow managed to play two more years of college hoops...he would STILL be HORRIBLE coming out of college. Bottom line...college hoops is NOT conducive to a player like Herb (and his amazingly stunted offensive game) to improve his overall offensive skills.

BUT...when a player like Herb enters the NBA...all bets are off. It's basically "work"...every day & he "eats and sleeps" basketball. There is almost NO way this guy was not gonna show HUGE improvement offensively...and he has...and imo...he will continue to do so. Forget this past season stats...actually there were a coupla anomalies associated with this past season for Herb...but you can figure those out for yourself if you dig a bit deeper into those "stats".

On Dyson...I'd say nearly every NBA evaluator would agree the jury is still out on his potential offensive development...and this past season was NOT a good sign for his future. JMO...this next season is VERY important for Dyson...offensively. I actually like the guy and will be pulling for him.

BTW...if none of this makes any sense...it's probably because I tried to keep it short...and not explain, in depth, what all goes into "evaluating" a player's potential...especially when age disparity has to be considered.

good thing the pelicans wouldn't even need to worry about this flaw.

That's a pretty wild "stat" considering Dyson has NEVER played in a playoff game????

(2) play in games:

7pts 7reb 12ast 2 blks 1-2FT

11pts 10reb 4ast 3stl 0FT

So a 22 y/o who was just #2 in DPOY voting is "unplayable" because of a 2 game sample size of

9pts/ 8.5reb/ 8ast/ 1.5stl/ 1blk

Dude is almost averaging a triple double in a sample size that you claim makes him unplayable because he shot 1-2FT

Retarded.

You are legit saying that a guy who can average close to a trip dub and top 3 defensive player in the league is unplayable because he misses less than half of (1) FT a game.

To be fair...I don't think Dyson is "unplayable", late in a playoff game...especially not on a team as bad as the Hawks...but...I will admit it is hard to figure out how a player like Dyson, after 3 years in the NBA, can still be such a TERRIBLE free throw shooter. IT IS REALLY HARD...TO SHOOT THAT POORLY !! His FT% is very hard to explain... & we would usually associate it with one of 3 possible explanations...and none of the 3...are optimistic toward Dyson's future offensive growth.

WHo's the second best player Trae has played with? and he dragged a team with no #2 to the ECF.

It'll still probably be prime Collins or Murray.

Yet its the same argument people made for YEARS that Trae > Luka because he 'dragged that team' through a couple of series. He literally shot 42/31/87 and took 22 shots a game to get 29 points that entire playoffs. People ignore the fact that Capela in his prime was arguably a top 3 defensive center & perfect P&R partner. Or that he had 3 other players who played significant minutes who spaced and shot 40% from 3 without needing to be ball dominant.

That was 5 year ago and as the defensive anchor like Capela has aged and regressed, John Collin, Kevin Huerter, DeAndre Hunter has been moved on from for other players, he has not improved and they have not gotten out of the first round. Part of why and who they meet in round 1 (Boston & Miami) but also part because even when they've tried to shuffle pieces around him, somehow his efficiency never improves. They've tried other shooters & facilitators, and yet NONE of it works.

He has had ONE single year shooting >45% from the field. He has ALWAYS been a net negative defensively and as his offense has leveled/started to regress; his defense remains equally as bad which means his teams are equally running into the same problem of him being an overpaid shot chucker.

Doubling down on stupid, 90% of the board was dead wrong about Dyson. They don’t like eating crow.

My guess: out worked and was smarter than most on the team or staff, therefore ruffled feathers in Nola. A player you need to locate, no matter who you are, before the clock starts.

I applaud and send well wishes.

The Herb/Dyson argument is simple. They are BOTH too limited as offensive players and shooters to play them together. This was a Pelicans scouting issue. Griff and company thought Dyson could become a primary ball handler. He has not shown that ability yet. In fact, Herb is still way ahead of Dyson in that area.

Herb is ahead of Dyson in his development. Yes, he is older, but he is also the better player at this time. He is also a second round pick who is on a fantastic contract. Knowing that, I don’t understand why the Pels took a very similar player in the top 10. It is quite obvious that Herb and Dyson cannot share the court together and they definitely can’t share it at the same time as Zion for long stretches.

Dyson was simply never going to be able to be a big factor here with Herb on the roster. One had to go. I understand why this is an issue. Herb was hurt in the second game of the season and Dyson led the league in steals. We didn’t get to see Herb further develop because of the injury. However, Dyson was not significantly better on offense and the Hawks were right where they always are, the play in. I crush this organization for a lot of things, trading Dyson isn’t one of them.
