I agree too. I never understood the “Mitchell is a perfect fit” talk with GSW. A Mitchell/Curry backcourt is just so small. I know they’re looking to win now, but passing on a better player for a more ready player doesn’t seem like their MO.

Agreed. Moody and Franz stand out as ideal options for them at 7. Could see Orlando strongly considering Moody too. They are in a position to draft pure upside, but they just paid Fultz, got Hampton as a centerpiece of the Gordon deal, and Anthony had a promising rookie season. Throw in Isaac/Okeke/Carter and that team needs wing help in the worst way going forward.

Oregon guard Chris Duarte — a projected top-20 pick — has received an invite to the 2021 NBA Draft Green Room at Barclays Center, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

It doesn't make him a lottery lock, but it does make me think he might not be there at 16 like I'm hoping. Here are other green room invites.

Roko Prkacin has withdrawn from the draft. I didn't see that one coming.

Jeremy Woo has a new mock out. LINK

He has us going with Davion.

quote:

10. Pelicans: Davion Mitchell, G, Baylor

Height: 6' 1” | Weight: 205 | Age: 22 | Junior

As New Orleans prepares to mount a legitimate playoff run next season, expect the Pelicans to explore options involving this pick to improve the roster and expedite their rebuilding process, while revamping the supporting cast around Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. Mitchell’s intangibles, defensive acumen and reputation as a gamer should hold obvious appeal to a team that has frequently struggled on the defensive end, and with late-game decision making. While New Orleans doesn’t necessarily need another guard, Mitchell’s skill set differs significantly from the offensive-minded Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis. Mitchell could come off the board before this, with the Warriors thought to be heavily interested. But the fit here makes sense if the Pelicans stay put.

Kuminga falls to 7 and Moody falls to 16 in his mock.

Why is Moody falling? Seems like he would be rising

Usually what makes players rise now are showing out in workouts or having better than expected physical metrics at the combine. If Moody was "as expected" in those I would say others are probably moving up rather than Moody is moving down.

Sucks that duarte is moving up.

One of my favorite players in this draft.

I don't know, but I sure hope Moody doesn't fall past #10.

Every time I go back and watch a Moody game, I love his game more and more. I recently watched one of his games against Alabama and he was almost always in the right spot defensively and his decision making with the ball in his hands was almost equally as flawless. He's not the flashiest player, he's not exactly Kyrie Irving with his handles, and he struggles to turn the corner sometimes...but, he plays within himself, is a very underrated passer on the move, and can obviously shoot it. He's just a really freaking solid all around wing. I do think he needs to bring more consistent physicality in transition defense and off the ball defense, which would seem to be pretty easily correctable for him.

If he's the reliable catch and shooter, individual and team defender, and good decision maker that he's shown the strong potential to be, he's going to be a starter for a long, long time. And there's much more room to grow if he strengthens his dribbling, learning to effectively use his frame and change speeds to create separation.

Kind of related: I've watched a lot of Bama games and Herb Jones stands out every single time as a potential long time bench piece. Makes me feel better as an LSU fan that he's gone because he did so much for them defensively and was such a good playmaker offensively. Every game he has a pass where I have no idea how he found an angle to execute.

His ceiling appears limited due to athleticism. High floor/low ceiling

yeah, but for a teams with multiple star-talented players, the smarter move is to get role players that can fit them. moreso than a 3rd ball-dominant player

I would love Herb Jones in the second. Looks like a good bench guy, and who knows maybe you get lucky and he blossoms into a 3&D.

haha i saw that too. That was CBS. Those guys are apparently morons.
They had Brandon Boston going 9th. I had to look up who that even was when i saw that b/c he isnt' projected in the 1st round anywhere else, much less top 10. They had Jalen Johnson and Zaire Williams going 7th and 8th.
They had Moody going 20th and Wagner going 24th.
I think it's safe to say they don't know what they are doing, or maybe they are geniuses?

I could be wrong but I don't think that was a real mock. I think it was a "what if everyone was drafted off of their ceiling" mock. ie They had way too much time on their hands.

What is the board's thoughts on Rokas Jokubaitis? I think he'd be a great pickup in the 2nd...let him play another year or two overseas...reminds me of Dragic some in his game. Has good size. Smart player.

New Wasserman mock this morning: LINK

He has Moody, Franz, and Bouknight all getting drafted before us. Kuminga falls to 8. We grab Kispert at 10.

quote:

The New Orleans Pelicans are looking for quick results, and Corey Kispert figures to add shot-making and create spacing as a rookie.

In the conversation for the draft's top three-point threat, he's also an exceptional transition finisher and high-IQ half-court player.

Teams are looking at the success of Cameron Johnson with the Phoenix Suns to justify taking a shooter who has a role-player outlook in the lottery. New Orleans also figures to consider Davion Mitchell and Franz Wagner.

In this scenario with Moody/Franz/Bouknight gone, I would much rather trade down and grab Trey Murphy and an asset than take Kispert at 10. Or if we dealt with the Knicks and got 19 and 21, grab two of Murphy/Butler/Sharpe/Garuba/Grimes/Ziaire (one shooter, one high upside project).

10th for 19 and 21.

antetekuompo was 15th.

you scorn kispert.

I see why. he wouldn't shoot because he didnt have a clear easy shot.
he got cold feet in the champ game.

I would like to see him do a modified jump hook as he gets to ft line.
chet walker style.
or hes not getting his shot off.

Well I don't really have anything against Kispert. I just think picking him at #10 is horrible value when you can trade down for him. And if our objective is shooting and you trade down and miss on Kispert, I would be more than happy with getting Murphy, Butler, or Grimes instead. Or even Wieskamp or Hauser way later. There's lots of good shooting options available.

These would pretty much be my options I think:
1) Draft Moody at 10
2) Draft Wagner at 10
3) Draft Bouknight at 10
4) Trade down
5) Draft Giddey at 10
6) Draft Kai at 10

New mock from The Ringer this morning: LINK

They have us taking Kispert at 10 as well.

If we don't give up 10 for Sexton then I just don't see how you don't trade down. There isn't enough separation unless your scouting makes you sure about a player.

I'd be pretty surprised if we just stayed at 10 and that was it.

I mean look it takes two teams, so we may not have the deal.

But I expect us to do SOMETHING, whether that's move it for a vet, move up, move down, dump for salary, etc.
