They get it, they just can’t admit they get it. To do so means they have to come to grips with complete disaster Dumars and the franchise is today.

THere's multiple articles out there that detail it.

Dumars came to Graham with the trade proposal first.
Graham didn't believe it and had to go back to Dumars multiple times to confirm the details.
Then Graham told their GM about it, and he called Dumars to make sure the details were correct.

They were in shock at his stupidity.

I agree.
Although like Nico, this is a transaction that should not be forgotten b/c of how stupid it was.

You cannot seriously believe that this is what happened - that someone received a ridiculously good proposal and went back and asked multiple times for a confirmation. If that is indeed true, that means that Graham and everyone else in Hawks organization is also an idiot, because every normal person will simply agrees to it immediately.
There were also multiple reports that teams from 8 to 12 rejected the very same offer, which makes them also idiots.
So, most probably the truth is somewhere in between and it's fricking annoying to keep bringing it up in every thread.
It's far away from the trade which Nico did, because it gaves us some hope for the future a year earlier and in Dallas case it mortgaged their future for a current "success"

Put 10k on it.
I can guarantee my soccer winnings alone will top what you made in all sports this year.

I agree it’s far away from the Luka trade but the trade for queen is one you do for a team that believed they were going to be competitive this year, and believed queen was a piece that could improve that. Problem is, anyone with half a brain, knew this team was going to suck but apparently everyone in the front office didn’t. Queen is good, but a good deal at the wrong price is still a bad deal. You pay for the current worth of the asset and they vastly overpaid. So they dump an unprotected pick in a very talented draft to bring a player in to help compete now, but then keep Willie green on and continue to do so even after the start they’ve had. This team has no clue what they are doing and everyone sees it so if y’all can’t, I guess enjoy the process lol

Joe Dumars said it directly.
But I guess unanimous reports, which serves as clickbaits, are more truthful.

And this have been mentioned a million times.
But at the end of the day time will tell, so let's see what will happen in couple of years without flooding every thread with the same complaint.
We have way bigger problem anyway, because regardless of the picks and players we still have Willie as a coach and eceb Wemby will regress with him.

In reality we have been an unsuccessful franchise for the past 20+ years. Our whole existence has been a "bad deal" at this point and the only way to move on from that is to build with new players.

A "bad deal" is just another year for the Pelicans franchise while "good young players with potential" are something that can actually save us or turn the corner.

Dumars made that trade knowing that the FO wanted him to trade Z and he wanted to give it a chance first. He took the risk because he got Z's replacement and can get back more than what we lost for it. All that needed to work out is Fears/ Queen being hits and not misses. And its looking pretty solid right now.

Trade: Z/ Poole/ Herb/ Looney/ Missi/ Jose/ Hawk

You are looking at minimum of 5-6 1sts and 4 2nds of value along with like $110mil to take back.

Just imagine. Haliburton wasn't hurt yet when they traded that pick. We could have top 3 protected that one too. We'd have Fears, Queen, and two top 5 picks. It feels like we're always in position to end up like OKC or Boston but we can never capitalize.

Throughout history, Unprotected picks get moved for actual stars, AD, Garnett, CP3, Harden, Durant, etc. or I’m sure in some instances to move up to the top 2 or 3 spots at the very top of the draft.

Never for the #13 pick lol. And not just the 13th, pick, he also gave up the 23rd pick on top of it.

I’m sure with Dumars stellar past record, him doing something that’s never been done before and bucking nba tradition, that I can recall anyway, has no chance of turning into a disaster…..

Especially with this franchise

Doesn't mean it's a good bet. He's not going to jump two media darlings on teams that are better than the Pels.

It's like betting the Bills every NFL season and thinking you got good value.

Is VJ Edgecome really a "media darling"? The best player wins ROY pretty much every year. It's not really a popularity contest like MVP/DPOY/All NBA. If Queen puts up numbers, he has as good a chance to win it as anyone.

Flagg is been pretty meh so far. per 36 (which matters more in context given Queen will start getting more minutes now) Queen has better numbers, and he didn't have a preseason.

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. I got Derik Queen at +15000. That is objectively good value.
