Griff said early on that they would bring Zion along slowly, and they’re being extra cautious with the knee surgery and the rehab. Frustrating for fans, but probably best for Zion and the team in the long run.
Agree? Disagree?

It’s cool and probably could get some nice goodwill with other players that we care about their health, but we have to win some. No one wants to play for a loser with no hope.

I just don't understand the need to bring him along slowly.

Sure the injury stinks and it may have been a mix of precautionary and necessity, but looking at the last 8 healthy #1 overall Picks they averaged 69 Games Played and 30.31 mins per game.

I took out Markelle Fultz, Blake Griffin, and Ben Simmons rookie years because they all battled injuries their first year.

Let the kid play.

Deandre Ayton played 71 games and 30.7 mpg
KAT played 82 games and 30 mpg
Andrew Wiggins played 82 games and 36.2 mpg

No, I want to rush him back and risk re-injury. That worked out great with the Warriors and KD, right?

I mean, this is just standard verbiage that anyone is going to say.

So you took out all the injured guys to show how healthy #1 overall picks are? Wait, what?

Why in the world would you want a guy want to anchor your team for the next decade or even 2 decades to play on a torn meniscus his rookie year when your best bet is to fight for the 8 seed?

I don't even understand the alternative.

Pels assembled a roster that was supposed to be good enough that a 19 year old wouldn't feel a huge amount of pressure to carry a team/franchise. Rushing him back from injury is the exact opposite of that premise. If the Pels can't be something other than atrocious on defense with the current roster, then changes need to be made somewhere.

Sure it’s the right thing. It’s also the right thing to slowly build this team around him and let him dominate the league when he feels ready

You are correct, but a couple of posters have whined about Zion not playing.

It is astounding how dumb and reactionary some of the takes on here have been recently. All those people forgot (or never realized) the uphill battle we were facing to start the season with or without Zion. This is a brutal first stretch with a completely new, young team. Of course we are going to struggle early on. It's the time of year where players are still figuring each other out, and the coaches are trying to play around with rotations to see what works. Add on top of that that Zion was held out and you get some large overreactions to our poor start. People will think that Zion being here would magically make these struggles go away and that's just not true.

No matter what you say they were going to overreact. I don't think anyone who knows what they are talking about would argue that holding Zion out was a bad idea.

Why waste time playing him? The rest of the team sucks. Might as well save some miles on his knees

I just don’t want him to be on some stupid minutes/load management restriction when does get healthy.

He’s not going to be able to run for 2 months. It would be ridiculous to not expect it.

That is up there with the poster who nonsarcastically said his expectation was to be a few games above .500 when Zion returns.

Well he’s not healthy...

So maybe a minute load management is necessary.

Zion plus Ingram and the future picks we have will make us contenders at some point and protecting him is priority number 1. If he gets comfortable and wins he will be in Nola for a long time.

Zion will probably be on a 15-18 minute restriction for the first week, with slightly increasing minutes until around the ASB where he should be around 30 a game
