Do Laker's fans realize the dice roll their ownership just made?

If the picks are as described in this article, any failure to win quickly could put the Lakers in a situation where it may take a decade to rebuild.
https://www.slamonline.com/nba/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-draft-picks-in-the-ad-trade/
They are rolling these dice based on two players who are incredible on the court. But they will have so much committed in cap space they will not have much left to get a quality backup to give them bench time during games.
Anthony Davis has a history that includes a lot of injuries. Players who had a lot of injuries early in their career do not suddenly not have them as they age. They usually get worse. And for this trade to be a success, Davis will not only have to play more than 68 games in the regular season, which he has only done twice in 7 years, he will have to survive the grueling pace of a deep playoff run.
Lebron is one of the best players in NBA history and it would not be a stretch to make an argument that he could be the best. He is only 34 but is going his 17th NBA season. The first 16 included many deep playoff runs. This is not Brady or Brees. An NFL qb is only likely to see less than 6 minutes of actual action a game, or less than 96 minutes in a season. Even, if you rested Lebron 12 minutes a game he would see close to 3000 minutes of continuous action in a season. Moses Malone, Kareem and Kobe were all blessed with long careers like Lebron but by year 17 they were not "the guy". They played great basketball but had fallen off from the iconic level at which they once played every night.
The Lakers need both of these guys to bring it for most of the regular season and into the playoffs without serious injury. And they have to do it with what will likely be one of the thinnest benches in the league. It may happen but it is still a high risk move by the Lakers.

Indeed, and I am not saying he could not bring it for another year or two. Just that it would be an extreme outlier. And I am not sure you risk the next decade on an extreme outlier.

Lebron will just take a couple weeks off mid-season to "regroup", go to Miami and see his 'doctor', then come back and play 47 minutes a game at MVP level for the rest of the season......
no big deal
no big deal

Not just that. LeBron is approaching all-time when it comes to minutes played over a career. He's currently 12th with 46,097. He'll pass Ray Allen by like game 7 if he averages the same MPG he did last season (35.2). I'll give him 70 games this season, and at that rate he'll be 8th all time behind Kobe. And none of this is counting his playoff mintues. Just playoff mintues, LBJ is #1 with just over 10K.
He's wearing down.
ETA Also, LBJ is a very physical player, which factors in as well.

Basically three full seasons in playoff minutes alone. That's a lot of miles.

Lakers forgot you can't play 2 top 5 guys 48 mins a game for 82 games then playoffs
The fatigue sliders aren't set to off

LeBron is starting to take the Harden approach when he doesn't have the ball, taking plays off, not playing defense, so that will help to a degree, but they legit have a 2 year window with this, and I don't see it happening with how Pelinka is managing the roster and salary cap.

The only "active" payer ahead of him is Dirk, and he's retiring.

I think the rumors LeBrons physical demise have been greatly exaggerated. He will simply transition into his old man game and still be great for another 4-6 years.
But AD....he sprained his vagina putting on his picked out clothes this morning.

I think it is no coincidence Griffin replaced the medical staff shortly after he arrived.

Yeah I agree with all that’s been said. Also, this trade doesn’t just have to do with the next 2-3 years but years after that as well! AD can’t stay healthy, and with Lebron’s Age and minutes played I don’t know how great they will be. If this doesn’t go well, the Lakers could turn into the Nets of the last few years that were really bad and had to watch all of their picks be taken by the Celtics!

I know it is fun to say we got over on them, but it really is a win-win trade. The Lakers have 2 of the best players in the NBA who greatly compliment each other. They have cap space to add another star or (the smarter route) to fill out the roster. They also will have 1st round picks to develop or use for trades once they are made in 2020, 2021 or 2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025. On top of that they will be destination #1 for ring chasers and buy-out candidates.
AD's injuries aren't as big of a deal as you are makign them out to be. HE has not had serious stuff where he misses tons of time. He can miss games int he regular season. The Lakers are going to be a playoff team if Lebron and AD play in 65 games.
It's great for us too as we could get an awesome future pick out of this if there is a significant injury or if they sign another older star to support this year's run (my hope is CP3 or Horford on long big money). We also get #4 alogn with Ball/Ingram/Hart.

Ball and Ingram aren’t expected to be cornerstones of a title contender with limited other help.
The Lakers’ current roster is LeBron, AD, Kuzma, and three scrubs. Depending on which numbers you use, they have between $23m-32m plus exceptions to make that into a contender, but pretty much no ability to make trades.

So we should be wanting the lakers to make the playoffs next year only so we get that unprotected pick on the double draft.
