Ok, we gave him so much grief for the past 2 years or so. He preached a family environment with a culture of caring on day 1. He talked about building through experience and youth and not sacrificing personality fits and a want to be in the city and fight for each other.

It may have taken longer than we would have liked and it may not have been a smooth ride, but damnit he did it! Best GM by a long shot in New Orleans basketball franchise history.

The best thing he's done is stay out of the spotlight.

Once he decided to STFU and just do work, it got better for the whole organization.

He had a HUGE amount of assets to fill in a 8-10 man rotation...

Putting together a team that can win with top 5 resources does not make that slimy MF the GOAT of anything.

that's really not a ringing endorsement.

I still don't trust him. His offseason moves of Lonzo and Graham, even the Jonas trade (the fact that Memphis was able to trade Bledsoe without giving up anything instead of giving up an asset like we did) on top of trying so hard to get unattainable assets and having to start the season without a PG or stretch big, yet again, will never look ok.

He's a snake and always will be, and people (players and coaches) that see that will never have full trust in him.
I"m not going to sit here and pretend he's a good GM b/c his staff found Alvardo and Herb and they worked out. That's luck.
The CJ trade was great, and i tip my hat to him for that one.

I do'nt trust him to handle Zion going forward.

His first two off seasons were just plain awful.

I’ll give him credit the JV trade was an absolute home run, especially with the lakers going in the tank and us keeping the first.

And adding the three rookies was remarkable for how we got them but I’m not so sure that was him, b/c they don’t fit his usual draft profile. Like someone posted earlier, they reek of Gar Formans influence. But Griff will get the credit.

He nailed the entire off-season outside giving 15 to Charlotte for Graham which is horrendous.

He was given the biggest generational talent since Lebaby from the jump.

And then had an all nba player and quasi all star to trade to build around that talent with no long term bad contracts on the books when he took over.

And he absolutely blew it the first two years…..

So this biggest generational talent is now making this team great. Thanks for explaining it to me

Uhhhh…… yea. We jumped 8 spots in the draft lottery and had a top 5 talent (who happens to be a head case) demanding to be traded. What about that is not lucky for Griff?

Maybe it has something to do with him setting a new standard for what star players are traded for. You can’t sit there and say we would have gotten anywhere near the same return with anyone else.

Griff is the Forrest Gump of GMs. He fell arse backwards into CJ because he was so bad at attracting a lead guard, he got a great coach only because he hired such a terrible coach, and somehow wound up getting 3 rookies that are playing playoff minutes.

In pure PT fashion, griffin deserves 0 credit and everything he accomplished was luck and anyone in his position could have done it.

I think where Griff certainly deserves credit is in terms of culture setting. It wasn't always the right culture figure for the right moment(a hardass old school, grind it out guy during the grueling Covid season), but by and large he has always vetted and brought in "good guys" and cultural fits. Every year, whether it is this year's team, or Steven Adams talking about the quality of guys last year, or JJ calling the camaraderie of the guys in New Orleans the best he ever experienced both years, Griff has done a good job with character fits.

I do think it is more than fair to say some of this success was a classic example of failing your way to success....which is sort of how he has done things. He blew FA, blew last year, the trade down his first year has taken years to find what Garland could have given us out the gate, BUT, unlike Cleveland, the Lakers trade and Jrue trade have gave him mulligans to get out under his mistakes. And with a little luck we look poised to be in a very nice position going forward. A hit in this draft and some development of current guys and this is a contender for the next several years. Maybe longer if we manage things correctly

Yeah, why people do that? I fricking love everything about this team and that’s even without Zion. I love the players, the coaches, the culture and that’s what Griff said he wanted to focus on. It is all thanks to Griff

His offseason moves of Lonzo

Letting Lonzo walk is one of Griff best moves here. Lonzo was on this team for 2 seasons and we couldn't even make the play in he needed to go.

It really amazing that we legit thought we were hours away from Griff getting fired after that Alvin back tunnel story came out to where the team is right now.

All of that is great, but he will continue to be defined on how he handles Zion. Which has been a massive failure so far.

Ahh yes, Zion whos played 85 games in 3 years, is the reason this team is tied up with the #1 team in the NBA this year.

As with any GM, there is a lot of luck getting to success. There are moves you should have made and didn't, moves you wanted to make and couldn't.

I've always said you are ultimately judged by wins and losses.

His first two years were rough, but he had a much better offseason and season this year.

The Zion stuff will likely be how he is judged, but he has taken a VERY appreciable step back from the limelight this year, and I think that is a good thing, and probably helps the Zion situation.

If we are winning and Zion gets on the Court, the Zion situation is fixed, the end.
