Serious penalties for team (5 1st rounders!). However, I am a bit confused by the slap on the wrist Kawhi got in all of this. I would have expected that he be suspended for a significant part of the season at least.

Yeah Kawhi gets a slap on the wrist and get traded to where he is loved now in a better situation. Meanwhile the Clippers are on a direct flight to hell lmao

The punishment was always about the organization and owner rather than the player. I don't think the players association would have been fine with it if they really went hard after Leonard in all of this.

They had to hit the team hard in order to try to stop it from happening again. And that's what they accomplished.

I understand the penalties for the team, but Kawhi was obviously complicit in intentionally circumventing the rules and should have gotten a significant suspension IMO.

The keyword here is the Clippers initiated and facilitated the income opportunities based on what's considered a violation stated in the CBA. The players association would never accept punishment for Kawhi. They did the significant thing which was banning his agent. I'm not sure what you think they can do to Kawhi and think that it would fly with the players association here.

You could argue that a majority of professional athletes would be complicit in intentionally circumventing the rules if a Franchise green lights it and offers to give them extra money.

Very few would turn it down and even fewer would report that it was offered to begin with.

Players become free agents specifically to get the most money they can. The rules are set so that the Organizations do not abuse those rules.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you but the focus needs to be on the Teams/ Organizations.

Not disagreeing, but he should be penalized since caught intentionally doing so.

Balmer should be forced to sell the team. that is the appropriate punishment for this.

Uncle Dennis wasn't ever trying to be Rich Paul. His job was to get Kawhi 100% and he got him 110%. Had a motherfcuker that don't talk getting paid millions to sell arena jumbotrons and trees.

So because Kawhi demanded the Clippers trade for Paul George for him to go there...to land Kawhi cost the Clippers

10 first round picks
SGA
$30 million in fines
($150 million to Kawhi above the table and $???$ under the table)
($176 million to Paul George)

all for 0 playoff series wins

Just the irony of putting the hammer down for basic payola ~ endorsement deals that have always been the norm in pro sports and now even cool on the college campuses

The problem is that it is no show no work kinds of deals.

If Kawhi could have been assed to do a commercial or two, it would have been considered legitimate sponsorships.

What I’m wondering about if if the Clip Show had other deals in place that didn’t get turned up. The Raptors supposedly got hit up by Uncle Dennis for not only no show no work sponsorships but also ownership stake in the Toronto Maple Leafs, which they refused to do on salary cap grounds.

They had a picture drawn up on a napkin of Kawhi as a tree Groot character… what more do you want?
