Ok, to be fair, sometimes I just want to see the world burn. But was curious the overall feelings. Many get aggravated with CJ, probably more despise CP. But some things of note….

We haven’t had a true PG in a long long time. Probably since Chris actually.

Willie and Chris are really really tight. Beyond basketball.

The biggest draw here is the contracts. Chris is about $5 million less next season and then fully un guaranteed after that. We could cut the last two years and $63 million owed to CJ. Let’s be honest, we are heading towards a reckoning with the Herb and Trey contracts coming. People are talking near max contract for Trey. Something has to give.

My guess is every single person on both sides hate the idea. Maybe there are additional add ins either way. I mostly just wanted some fun discussion.

Chris is too old now.

I want the guy who can play more games.

What good team has a "true PG" these days? The league has changed. Look at the Elite 8 this year.

Celtics - They are built a lot like us with star wings and their version of Herb as their main ball handlers.
Sixers - Harden is a combo guard.
Nuggets - Their center is their PG.
Suns - CP3 has been injured and the experts say he's the one that needed to adjust if he came back because his "true PGishness" operates at too slow of a pace.
Knicks - Is Brunson another combo guard or a PG?
Warriors - Not sure what your call Steph/Draymond, but it's not traditional "true PG"
Lakers - Like the Celtics, they have a PG by wing committee.
Heat - Their more traditional PG is coming off the bench. Is Jimmy their PG?

I get the sentiment, but the Pels have a PG problem because their "PGs": Zion, BI, and Jose, spent way too much time on the injured list this past season and CJ couldn't handle the load by himself.

You also had someone who could/should have helped in Kira either not be good enough or just was in Willie's dog house. If Willie isn't going to play Kira they need to replace him with a legit backup PG, but this team doesn't need a "true PG".

Look, I’m the leader of the position-less basketball discussion. And I’m team, you are the position you defend. But I also feel you can make correlations between basketball and football. And we have been a team without a QB for a long long time. We’ve had amazing and exciting rbs and Wrs come through, but without the qb, our record is what it is.

It was our issue with Jrue Holiday, and will be our issue if we continue to rely on CJ and Bi as our primary initiators. One of our issues that is lol.

That being said, I have full confidence in running through Zion. And am much more interested in the contractual result here than the on court impact. All things being equal, I keep Cj.

The qbs have been injured bro. We'll be fine. The teams winning titles have bigs that facilitate at an elite level.

Maybe if Paul's guarantee date was January 24 instead of June 23, but it doesn't make sense to trade McCollum while his value is so low.

Plus I get too much joy watching Booker, Paul and Monty get demolished in elimination games. I only wish that Crowder was still there to make it complete.

The CJ + JV for Paul and Aayton trade I saw on twitter yesterday made me pause for a minute. You get off the CJ extension. You get Paul for a year and maybe you can salvage Aayton.

It's intriguing. If you could also include Nance, I would probably do it.

Aayton

People need to get this out of their head. If Monty hates him why do we think Willie would be any different? The commentary I've heard about this series have not cast Ayton in a very good light. Basically a lot of why we think we want him, he's been failing the Suns in those areas for most of this series.

Even if his salary wasn't an issue, it sounds like the idea of Ayton would always be superior to the play of Ayton.

The CJ takes on this board are outrageous.

Dude is 31, but people act as if he's 36.

For someone who relies on skill and not athleticism, there's no reason we can't get quite a few more high level production years out of him.

How about this CJ trade?

Pels get Jaylen Brown and Robert Williams

Magic get Kira and Gallinari, and Pels 1st

Celtics get CJ, Trey, Wendell Carter, Pels 1st

This.

Someone as talented as Ayton should be in the conversation with Embid and Jokic as the best centers in basketball, yet he makes no difference when half the time he is on the floor.

I can't think of a reason why either Boston or Orlando do those trades.

There's been chatter that Jaylen Brown isn't going to resign with them and next year is his last year under contract.

But i think with him making an all NBA team probably squashed him potentially leaving, so yeah, maybe forget i said that.

quote:

Jaylen Brown‘s inclusion on this year’s All-NBA Teams should settle any questions about his future with the Celtics, writes Sean Deveney of Heavy.com. As we detailed Wednesday, the honor means Brown is now eligible for a five-year Designated Veteran extension that starts at 35% of the salary cap. He can sign a new deal this summer that could be worth up to $295M and would take effect in the 2024-25 season.

There have been rumors that Brown isn’t satisfied with being the No. 2 option behind Jayson Tatum in Boston and that he might have considered looking elsewhere if he hadn’t qualified for the extension. An Eastern Conference general manager who talked to Deveney believes that’s no longer a worry.

“Well, he would be crazy to pass on what Boston can give him,” the GM said. “They will have to go all in and he is going to have to take it. You can’t turn down what is going to wind up being $60 million a year. Maybe he’s happy in Boston, maybe not, but if you’re Jaylen Brown and you have the opportunity to be the highest-paid player in the league, you’re damn right you take it.”

So, if he is not going to re-sign with the Celtics, why would he suddenly do so for the Pelicans?

I think he’s going to sign with whomever gives him the super max. And we can’t afford to do that any better than Boston can. It’s going to be an uncomfortable situation for everyone.

I think we have a top 10, maybe top 5 team on paper. What we need is a better training staff and/or players to take their maintenance and health more seriously.

I believe we were #2 in man-games lost.

We don't need a traditional point guard IMO. We just need health. As stated a few posts above, very few successful NBA teams have a traditional PG anymore

Supermax him.

Run it back a year.

Doesn't work, trade him for kp or a near elite pf/c because Al horford is getting geriatric.
