re: Pelicans vs Mavericks

Pelicans are actually making pretty successful defensive rotations w/ Zion and Poole being out.
They might currently be 2 of our 5 best players.
Willie blowing that challenge might have cost us the game. Awesome.
I want to like your post....but throwing Jose in there ruined it for me

Yeah because we're so long, and only Herb is good at matching up against guys 1 on 1, a matchup zone from time to time plays to our strengths

Pels are getting really good at zone defense. This might be a good weapon come playoff time
I'm not ready to give up on him. He has some major holes in this game but he also has some promise. He's a player that we can develop over time.

He's a perfect fit for the heat, and it seems they cleared space for him w their recent transactions
If fully healthy, this current roster can win a series, maybe 2. Mediocre 3-point shooting and lack of post defense would kill us against opponents deep in the playoffs

I think we have a top 10, maybe top 5 team on paper. What we need is a better training staff and/or players to take their maintenance and health more seriously.

I believe we were #2 in man-games lost.

We don't need a traditional point guard IMO. We just need health. As stated a few posts above, very few successful NBA teams have a traditional PG anymore
I don't know. We need more 3-point shooting

Maybe we should trade Zion for Eric Gordon.

To me, a really great major change that could happen outside of your parameters are changes to the medical staff and training.

Also an assistant coach that specializes in installing a crisp offense is a must.
Zion is young, and clearly might not be making the best decisions or taking great care of himself, but I also REALLY don't trust Griff.

He's misled Pels fans many times before, and has continued to mislead fans about Zion's injury diagnosis. I don't trust a word that comes out of his mouth.

re: Zion Trade Hypothetical

That scenario is pretty one-sided in our favor. We should do that in a heartbeat, but I think Blazers fans would be furious about the trade from their side.
Trey and Herb are the real deal. That 2021 draft was awesome.
Without that draft, this team might be in full rebuild mode. I don't think we're winning anything in march/april without those 2 guys.
This season is a marathon, not a sprint. It makes sense for CJ to take a lot of shots in a very winnable game 24 out of 82 against a super young Pistons team. At some point, he needs to snap out of his rut - he hasn't forgotten how to play basketball.

I'm fine with giving CJ a lot of run now even though it looks ugly due to his rust and rough start. Come playoff time, we will need Zion/BI/CJ all playing together at an optimum level.

Love Naji. Great player for team morale, enforcer, and just skilled enough to stay on the court and make a difference. He has a very versatile skill set. He's been great about getting the ball to hot players lately. He's kind of a B-minus at just about every skill, but isn't terrible at anything and can defend multiple positions. His one-man fast breaks can be fun sometimes as well. A great guy to have off the bench.
Yeah, the Spurs announcer said GTA has the energy of a 4 year old on a sugar high.

As a parent of a 3 year old....I concur
