Call me crazy, but I don't see the Knicks simply not offering KD a max still

You're not crazy. One large theory behind Durant (or LeBron) taking the 1+1 is that he could suffer a catastrophic injury and still get a max deal.

At any given time, only a couple of guys in the league can pull that off. And with that ability comes the tremendous power over teams and the league in FA.

Drafting & developing your own players

No one denies that.

But your team has to have assets we want, and still be good enough after a trade to compete for the shot at the conference finals that you speak of.

Find those teams for me.

I’m not talking about Boston or New York. I am very aware this can be good for those deals specifically if Kyrie stays in Boston.

I am referring to bubble teams that supposedly are players now.

This is not a binary process occurring in a vacuum. There are 30 teams in the league, if more than one team wants Davis, if more than one team wants any number of assets in play between the various interested parties, the landscape of what is possible can drastically change. What KD's injury does is change the calculus and risk tolerance of teams both in that core negotiation and those around it. Altering both the ceiling of a return and what return you may get.

The flaw in your thinking is that you need your trading partner to have every bullet, that the only way of thinking this through is in a binary fashion.

What these developments have the likely potential to do is alter what the max offer is and what teams are willing to get into the fray(and for how much) to cash in long-term assets for shorter-term pieces that can help take advantage of a suddenly more competitively balanced NBA. In real terms, it might mean being able to flip a guy like Lonzo more easily, bring back an additional draft pick, or get some teams to cash in some young role players you can get for a 2nd tier star to push them over the edge.

Feel free to name new teams with assets to play that can still compete after a trade. I responded directly to the assertion that bubble teams are now in play. I’m not talking about flipping players after the fact. I am talking direct trade partners for Anthony Davis. Certainly there can be a 3rd team in any deal, never denied that. I want you to find me new bubble trade partners because of this.

LAL to give up that one last asset they may be trying to hold on to, or to increase pick assets/swaps.

MM said on the twitter that everything is on the table for the Lakers already, basically same offer as during the season, but apparently Griffin doesn't really like all of those assets, so they'd have to work to get third teams involved. Also, he think Ingram would stay with the Pels in any Lakers trade (which I definitely agree with).

I did see that but I'm not going to post any MM tidbits anymore.

From the sound of it kind of seemed like Boston is involved but hasn't put up a legit "best" offer yet.

I have it on good authority that the admins are paying closer attention to PT these days.

No more getting away with whatever we want boys. With Zion comes increased scrutiny and attention. Better start posting like champions.

Chicken is the second best Admin of the bunch. He reads everything and is only inclined to respond to posts that are POY quality. I guess there hasn't been many on this board to date. j/k
