Not only has the fat man failed in making our D any better, he broke the offense. He took the only thing we were good at and broke it.

While I don't love what I'm seeing, this roster is also shitty and the offseason was super short.

He should get at least 2 years.

Good year to be broken. Stan will be coach next year. He didn’t come cheap and didn’t get a real camp/SL/preseason.

I mean I'll be the first to say things need to change, but this team was a dumpster fire this time last season under Gentry.

We were like 7-23 our first 30 games. Couldn't beat teams defensively, couldn't get stops. Lost to good teams, lost to bad teams. We were terrible.

And that was with having a full offseason and a normal schedule where you could hold routine practice.

Believe it or not, this team is playing better than the Gentry team this time last season, of course, we had Zion out, so that changes some things, but this is also an overall downgraded roster, at least in terms of natural synergy.

I'll give it 30-40 games before demanding SVG hand in his facility keys.

I don't understand what people expectation was for this season. We had a short training camp and with the covid protocols we can't even really practice that often.

It was obvious the moment we traded Jrue the goal was to keep building for the future. If we get a top 10 pick and trade Lonzo this season will be ok with me. I just can't get upset over a season where I can't even go to the games.

Too early. If you look at the results, the losses are pretty chalk. We have beaten the Raptors twice, but derped away 2 games we should have won (the Pacers and Thunder). Obviously the blowout losses are alarming. The schedule is about to soften up though, so wins are likely on the way in the short term.

Needs a full season of evaluation at minimum.

I agree its a bit shitty, but i don't want to hear the bullshite short offseason excuse.

Lets look at the other new coaches (not the clippers/76ers/Nets as they don't compare, nor the Rockets for obvious reasons) and the affect they have had to running an offense. ORat below from 2020 to 2021, not a single team was in the top half of the league in Offensive Rating last year.
Bulls - 107.6 to 112
Thunder - 111.7 to 103.9 as expected when you lose CP3, Schroeder and Gallo, and a good coach
Pacers - 110.9 to 112
Knicks - 107.1 to 105.5 as expected b/c they suck

Pelicans - 111.4 to 109.6 and we currently have the worst record among those 6 teams with new coaches, and we easily have the 2nd most talented team. The Knicks roster is pathetic compared to ours. Both the Bulls and Knicks are off to much better starts record wise this year than last.
Did Jrue Holiday make that big of a difference to our team. The Bucks have gone from 113 to 118 in offensive rating thus far.

We are too talented to be this shitty on offense. I"m sure i'll be told "continuity counts when looking at the Pacers and Bulls compared to our offseason changes". We upgraded Favors with Adams and we replaced Jrue with Bledsoe. I would'nt think it would make that big of a difference. You would think we would be better defensively, but our defensive rating this year is the same as last year.

I don't like what i'm seeing at all from SVG, but no i'm not ready to can him after this year, unless some drastic things were to happen that i can't even think of.

I agree with this assessment, but I think it’s important to realize how different the schemes are. From what it seems, Gentry didn’t do much coaching and didn’t draw up many offensive sets. I think the transition was harder than most. And I think we did underrate Jrue and his impact on winning.

Agreed. A top 10 pick in this draft and sending Lonzo off for a role player by the deadline are great outcomes for this season if our young players continue to improve.

I don’t think he’s the right coach for us. I give it another year.

Not playing your rookie, having everyone regressed and having a slow pace iso offense is frustrating.

Also with Langdon..guy has been disappointing honestly. He was suppose to find guys to help us and he is doing worse than Demps at that. Demps is garbage at giving out contracts, trading picks..etc but at least he can find end of the bench players.

Missing Zion had a lot to do with that. BI and Zo were brand new to the team as well.

Why are you acting like this is a talent full roster. Only BI, Zion, and Adams are playing up into expectation. Jax, NAW, and Kira are still developing. JJ is just not the same player he was last year, Both Hart and Bled have been disappointing and Lonzo just flat out sucks. And the rest of the roster is just there because we have to have a certain number of players.

The excuses cut both ways though if we’re gonna be consistent.

Two new starters, a new coach that was hired very late in the offseason, an offseason that was much shorter than normal seasons, and a season that doesn’t have the gaps in the schedule to hold as many regular full practices.

My point was that you cannot simply say we are better without looking at the fact that in the prior year, the team did not have one of its best players and 2 of the other top players were brand new.

Both years teams have large valid reasons to not be full products yet is the point, so writing SVG off this soon, especially when we are off to a better start, is premature to say the least.

Even if this isn’t a talented roster. You have to be frustrated with SVG on not playing the better players. NAW and Kira..one of them should be at least starting. Kira deserves more minutes than he should have. People are saying “developing” but how can you develop when your damn coach won’t play them.

I don't even care who starts or not really. It's way more about the combinations on the floor and the minutes each guy plays.

THAT is where SVG is failing the most. The starters get stagnant or the main bench guys are cold and eventually after 6 minutes he may take a time out but doesn't always make a sub (or an appropriate one) to truly fix the struggles.

That is the times he needs to go deep bench to get more energy on the court. A lot of times guys are standing around not moving and it's clear we don't have any true offense aside from the Adams high pick and roll and very poorly executed hero ball.

That is when guys like NAW and Kira are needed to make SOMETHING happen. They bring an energy and try to create whereas the other guys just kind of stand around or over dribble.

Eric Bledsoe is wildly inconsistent. I’d be willing to roll the dice with Dipo, even if it costs us a first rounder (& Ball)

I thought this year was all about getting the core comfortable working together and evaluating supporting players to see who might fit in going forward.

Were people really expecting winning right off the bat? No building slowly and looking for a couple of the years down the line using the assets we've collected?
