I wonder if you guys realize how much of a trip you are. You are preaching to me about losing teams and medicocity, but yet you are backing a plan that has never succeeded or produced a winning team. You say we can't be great without Davis or Cousins, but they have never won. Some of you have to realize by now, its not working and all the theories are BS. You actually think people in Memphis aren't happy that they had a good basketball team all those years and its pointless cause they didn't win a championship. Thats just dumb.

As to Bensons money. I don't care. But if you really believe they are going from paying Gentry less than 4M a year to giving Calipari a 8Y/100M contract to be coach/GM with total control, then you are insane. But that is what he is going to want. So keep pulling for that to happen. Just like we'll trade for John Wall and Devin Booker, right after that, pay a 100M tax bill after we win the championship..

The team is already similarly built to the Lakers team that won in 2008. There is no reason they shouldn’t contend with the current players. The Cavs simarly won their title because they dominated the boards against these small ball lineups and with perimeter defense. I think Gentry needs to step it up on preaching defense more, but Holiday and Hill should help with that.

They won’t contend this season because Cousins is hurt. He is a skilled big man so if he comes back with worse athleticism next season the front court should still be dominant. We could see the dominance showing leading up to the injury.

I definitely think it is stupid to think the Pels need to/or could trade for Wall or Booker. The Mirotic deal was a nice move that should drastically improve the team next season.

Its hard to compare this team to those, when you figure in either James or Bryant. I don't doubt Davis' talent, he just can't dominate a game like them cause he can't get his own shot and he isn't that level of defender. So he's always more dependant on needing great teammates.

If you enjoy watching this style and types of games, then more power to you. Its probably going to be this way for awhile. I'm just skeptical..

you have every reason to be skeptical

-davis on a max, can't carry the team
-holiday on a max, can't carry the team
-cousins on a max, likely will never fully recover

it's not ideal, no question

This is the real problem. He was the closest thing the Pels had to a goto scorer. That ability will almost certainly be reduced. They'll have to add another $20+ million player, or at least trade Jrue for one, to get that scorer and become true contenders.

The unfortunate truth is neither one of those 3 play the most important position in the NBA: Small Forward

Swap Cousins or AD out for a Jimmy Butler or Paul George and you're likely a top 4 seed.

Dell's issue is his tenure has undervalued that position and its the one thing constantly biting us in the arse.

You can take GSW off the list of good guys for me. Only guy I like as a human being on that team is Klay.

I'd add the Spurs

Thought we were talking hard working teams plus happy fan bases? I thought about SAS. There’s no way with all the crap going on with Kawhi in SAS that fan base is happy right now. They probably have faith and should in Buford/Pops, but I’d venture a Spurs message board isn’t a super pleasant place atm.

Do you really think its possible to add a 4th max player? Does anybody in the league have that? Even the Warriors only have 1 or 2, at the moment. We would have to turn Hill or Mirotic and Moore into one. Might be possible.. has to be a SF though..

Long term, no, I don't think a market like NOLA can afford a big 4. You'd have to either trade Jrue for that player or dump Jrue like the Warriors are probably going to dump Klay at some point. I also don't think it has to be a SF. A true lead guard could work with some competent 2 way SG/SFs next to him.

before he got hurt I could have talked myself into switching gears and building something around a decent defensive point guard, jrue holiday and cousins. the assets from a davis trade added to that would be interesting

now they don't even have that option as remote as it might be. it's davis or bust and hope boogie finds a magic bullet. Pretty grim if they don't get some divine intervention

Absolutely not. We will be above average because we’ve traded all of our draft picks and squandered away our future

4 current or past All-Stars could be on the court at the same time! Holiday, Rondo, Davis, and Cuz. Not many teams can brag like that.

But that also means no depth worth of poop

Don't sign cousins.

He won't contribute much year 1 of deal.

Go hard after a top fa guard.

With a healthy roster the team isn’t in horrible shape. Ajinca seems to be a waste of space, but they should be abale to shed him easily next season. Hill should be able to focus on defense as he is surrounded by a ton of offensive talent.

The league is based off of star talent. I would say that Cousins, Davis, Holiday, and Mirotic put us up with the top of the league in elite talent.

The post you replied to answered "no" to the OP which asked if the Pels are a serious contender next season.

Everything you said can be true, hell, it can be even better than you expected. They're still not a serious contender next season.

Col Flagg, I thought they had money they could spend on cousins and that he is Fa.

Most TD posters expected pels to try to keep cousins.
I don't follow the money as you do.

Use that cousins money for walls.

You are allowed exceptions to spend extra money for people already on your team. So we can spend it on Cousins, but not just a FA leaving another team.
