According to Synergy, the Pelicans have scored at least one point on 51.1 percent of the possessions in which Williamson operates as the pick-and-roll ballhandler, the sixth-best mark among players with at least 150 such plays this season. The Pels have also scored at least one point on 50.9 percent of Williamson’s isolations, which ranks seventh among players with at least 150 isolation possessions. The only other players who rank in the top 10 on both lists are Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, DeMar DeRozan and Gilgeous-Alexander.

That's a discussion for the offseason. There no way to change that during the season with BI in his current role. Thats just simply something the team and organization won't put their foot down to do full time. We've seen it time and time again, it's not happening this season.

According to NBA.com stats,
his PPP is 0.99 when he's the ball handler on a PnR, which is tied for 21st in the league, and CJ is actually ahead of him with more possessions as well.

He also has the 4th worst eFG% of the 23 players with the same or better PPP, and is also 4th worst at TO rate.

He is 11th in PPP for ISO plays, and has the highest TO rate among those 11.

and i don't say that to disagree with the fact that he shoudl have the ball in his hands more, just found it odd that i was looking these stats up today and they don't seem to match.

Also the fact that i just showed in the other thread how effecient BI has been off the ball further shows that Zion should have the ball in his hands more when he shares the court with BI.

Not saying anything groundbreaking here but Zion really has to work on that midrange jumpshot in the offseason. That should be a relatively easy shot with the space he’s able to command. Zion is a better finisher than Luka but Luka can score from everywhere else on the court, that’s what makes Luka so much more better

counterpoint...
zion is not drawing fouls because he's electing to take that midrange shot instead of powering thru contact and going to the rim

You're right but its also makes it easier for teams to defend him when they know he's going to go to the rim 95% of the time. Just for comparisons, Giannis frequency is around 75% from 10ft in. He has to add to his game and evolve his shot profile to mix it up.

He just needs to shoot more from the perimeter. 20-30 threes a year isnt enough. He needs to get up another 150 or so.

well...he's either unstoppable inside or he's not. every zion drive "should" result in a layup or a foul. what he should be working on instead of a jump shot is his handle and ability to drive to the right

You do know he goes right pretty frequently right? The narrative that he only goes left is silly.

He gets fouled seemly on every drive. That's the nature of his game. He's not getting those calls and it's been 5 years. It's time to evolve.

The problem with this is Zion is not getting the calls driving to the rim (whether he should be is of course a different question), often times ending up on the ground or under the basket leaving us a man short on defense.

The Pelicans are also 15-4 when Zion has at least 6 assists.

Interesting way to frame that stat. He's 16th in eFG% out of 84 players with at least 2.5 PnR ballhandler possessions per game, and who have played at least 30 games.

3rd in FT frequency, 3rd in shooting foul frequency, 2nd in And one frequency, and 4th in FG%. His eFG% ranking is lower because he's apparently shooting 54% on free throws that he's drawing while the PnR ballhandler (his FG% and eFG% are the same).

He has a chance to maximize his conditioning and help prevent injury, but will he?

I seriously had no idea you can actually cherrypick stats so accurately these days.

I can’t tell if you being an a-hole or not

But in the even that you aren’t, all I was trying to do was eliminate players with a small sample size of stats that aren’t really relevant. The NBA website has a ton of stats and you can create your own filters.

There are times when Zion doesn’t appear to have the most impressive handles… so there’s that.

And compounding that by stopping and fussing at the refs and not really trying to run back on D many of those times.
