Dave McMenamin: Anthony Davis, if all goes according to plan, will be back playing next week before the road trip

Anthony "Street Clothes" Davis, who is constantly derided as being always hurt, will allegedly return from a stress reaction in his foot (which is usually a pretty serious concern for a big man) next week. That will mean he will have missed just over a month with that.

Meanwhile, with a bruise to his toe, Brandon Ingram in 5 days will have missed two months, and he's not yet even on the injury report yet as doubtful or questionable, we do not know (or have reason to believe) he has gone through a practice, nor have any timeline for his return.

Does Toni need to pass his nickname down to BI and Zion?

Wanna make fun of that guy you traded away because he's always injured? Well, we'll give you 2 of those guys in return, said the NBA Gods

It's getting ridiculous at this point. I don't expect BI back any time soon. Not even before the All Star break. If he does, would be a huge shock to me.

By next year if this continues, we’ll need to trade one of BI or Zion.

Can’t have two stars never available

I don’t foresee either of them being traded any time soon

I actually think this is a terrible idea by AD and the team. He is trying to rush back before the trade deadline so the team makes a move. And we all know what can happen if you don’t let a stress reaction calm. Cost Jrue essentially two seasons. But hey, you do you AD.

It is ridiculous that the local media has not questioned his absence more. There is no transparency with this team. Was there a setback? Was the actual injury much worse than the team has reported?

It's funny because while you're correct and I agree that I'd love to see the media grill the org a bit more, I also think that ultimately it wouldn't help at all. They would just give non answers and avoid giving us those timelines we all want.

Jesus dude, I get the frustration. Everyone is frustrated. But you're like a dog with a bone, give it a rest.

Maybe contracts should extend for however long a player was injured.

I really don't think the Lakers are going to make any big moves to mortgage their future even further to maybe become a play-in team.

It’s such a crazy spot. Westbrook has actually been good for them, so now if they deal him as salary they lose something on the court. So they have to piece some guys together instead. If they do nothing, they could create a sizeable amount of cap space AND could have three firsts to trade as they gain access to our 2023 first on draft night. So much more opportunity for a big swing. What they do or don’t do will be fascinating.

At this point, I’d be willing to put down money that Zion will be playing again before Ingram.

One thing I noticed in the Miami game that piqued my interest and made me start to think maybe Clark is right, Zion was front and center on the bench, sitting pretty much by the coaches and where active players usually sit. BI was at the end of the bench, pretty much by himself.

I don't. BI is at least participating in shootaround right now. I think they come back around the same time though – BI comes back first, then Zion a week or so later, just in time for CJ or BI to get hurt.

This type of stuff is so overblown.

By the time BI or Zion come back, 1 or 2 other starters will be out due to overwork from carrying their load. It's Pelicans karma.

I don’t know, a lot of people noticed a difference in Billy and how he went from a guy that was always joking and flowing around to just looking like he wasn’t interested, then the trade request comes,

You can tell a lot about teams by how guys act on the bench towards each other.

Even though he is sitting on the end of the bench, BI still celebrates.
