Am I crazy thinking this team can sneak in the playoffs?

I'm sure this is some being a fan optimism but I feel like this team has a better than average shot of getting in

Well considering there’s a good bit of metrics out there predicting we make it in...

I think it's fair to put the Pels in the "On the bubble" category of playoff teams where if the Pels have good injury luck and other teams don't they can make the playoffs.

Depends on how a lot of the elements on our team gel and if certain young players (Ball, Ingram, Zion, NAW) catch on quick.
It also remains to be seen if Gentry’s system works well now that he should have the parts to pull it off.

On paper the potential is there. The most important things to watch are:
1) How quickly the pieces gel in a new system
2) Staying healthy - obvious factor, but health has been an issue for Zo and BI in their short careers
3) Zion/NAW/Hayes can produce serviceable minutes in year 1. Hayes is probably the longest shot, but it's possible

The majority of people are predicting we make it
There are 7 teams competing for 3 spots IMO.

Have you read the nephews on r/NBA objection?
They think we win 25 ish games at best

I think 538 had us with a 50% chance to get in.
That seems reasonable to me. So nope not crazy at all.

I don’t even care if we get a 7/8 just to get swept. At least Zion and the other kids on this team get a small taste of the postseason to build off of.

They also predicting the Lakers go 74-8?

I would say they have a 50/50 shot right now. If Holiday, Zion, and Ball can stay healthy they have a shot.
Western conference playoff teams
Near locks:
Clippers
Rockets
Lakers
Nuggets
Jazz
Warriors
Fighting for the last two spots
Trailblazers
Spurs
Mavericks
Pelicans
Timberwolves
Virtually no chance
Suns
Kings
Grizzlies
Thunder
I think the Pelicans can be better than the Timberwolves and Mavericks but fall behind the Spurs and Trailblazers.

I’m not so sure the Warriors are a lock.
No Durant, no Klay for most of the season, lost most of their depth like Livingston and Iggy, brought in DLo who is a questionable fit next to Steph.
Steph is still an all world player but it is going to be a lot easier to focus on him when he is rolling out guys like William Cauley-Stein next to him.

I would swap Jazz with Portland on your list that said i think both make it. That leaves only one spot. Mavs are intersting with whether Porzingis comes back to form after injury. I can't get my head wrapped around how good this Spurs team is supposed to be. Timberwolves...nah not a chance. So Three teams including us fighting for one spot. I don't think we are there yet.

Is it more advantageous to just miss it or just make it?
I gotta admit, I don't really know how the lottery works currently.

This.
Most rookies don’t make an immediate impact and it usually takes them at least three years to be a real viable difference maker. This team will go as far as Jrue, Favors and Ingram take them. We have a good bench and Lonzo is a good defensive player. Gentry is a wild card.
I think we can make it, and I’ll be rooting us on. But it’s important to not try to win now at the expense of three to four years from now like Dell tried to do.
