this was his first year at Michigan, so there really isn't a lot on him. Not interested in a guy that has been a head coach for half a year in college. If you go the college route, it needs to be someone who has proven themselves over many years, like Stevens and Donovan did.
Obviously you're vying for General Wade from Louisiana State University.

Please Philly take him
Or the Nets. Luckily there’s destinations Lue would prefer over us

Lue isn’t as bad as this board makes him out to be. I admit I was very much against him as a candidate at first based on perceptions that may not have been entirely accurate.
The guy seems to be in high demand for some reason. He was in play for the Lakers job last year and seems to be in play for multiple jobs this year. A lot of people seem to respect him.
I’ll be a little skeptical and he’s not in my top 5 choices or anything, but I won’t melt like I would for Jason Kidd or Mark Jackson.

True.

Craig is very interesting but I doubt they give a guy that young the job. I’d like it I just can’t see Griff going that way.

I agree, but a bunch of people respect Alvin Gentry too. Could care less about respect. Can you coach?
People always point out he called out Lebron. Big whoop. He’s not the first to do that, or the last. What did he do X’s and O’s wise for the cavs? Legit question as I don’t know.
I’m just not a big fan of recently former players as coaches. Just b/c you played doesn’t mean you can coach. Maybe one day he’ll be a great coach, but he needs a lot more experience, and I don’t want to be the one to give it to him.

Like I said. He’s not one of my favorites that’s for sure. Wouldn’t even be on my radar. But I’m not going to melt.

Jacque Vaughn is the only guy out there that i'd melt over. I would lose my mind if that guy is handed this roster.
Legitimately one of the worst head coaching resumes in the history of basketball. Maybe he turns it around and becomes a great head coach somewhere else. I'd happily take that loss.
You go 20-62, 23-59, 15-37, I don't even want you as an assistant.

I’m sure Ty Lue is the front runner based on Griff’s history with him.

Here are some thoughts from an Athletic beat writer who covered the Cavs and Sixers.

My thoughts on Lue:
- great offensive playbook and underrated tactician
- unlike Brett, is not afraid to stray from his game plan and make adjustments quickly
- stands up to / commands respect from stars
- designs regular season schemes to match what they’ll run in the playoffs
On the downside, his rotations always drove me nuts. He’ll experiment with bizarre lineups and keep them on the floor way too long. I also don’t trust him to implement some kind of incredible, Spurs/Heat/whoever culture of unselfishness and accountability. Just not his m.o.
He will for sure be someone that people use as a scapegoat for a bunch of little things but I believe he will do a good job on stuff casual fans don’t see. X’s and O’s, matchup-based adjustments, holding Simmons/Embiid accountable behind the scenes.

Why not Lue? The onus should be on detractors to tell us why. Coaching lebron to a title is not a reason to not want a coach
Well it’s not hard to find out why
Start one of your threads, include quotes about Lue from highly respected NBA people. Phil Jackson, MJ, Doc Rivers, K.G., Lebron, Kyrie, Durant, Kevin love, Richard Jefferson, Channing Frye, Paul Pierce, Danny Ainge, Kobe, Magic and many more lesser former players and teammates
I’ll give you one from Richard Jefferson bc muh Xs and Os. Played 18 years in the league with 8 different teams. Lute Olsen, Mark Jackson, Byron Scott, rick Carlisle, pop, Mike Malone to name a few of the coaches he played under
“T-Lue and Gregg Popovich are the two best X’s and O’s coaches that I’ve played for in my entire basketball career. From high school all the way up until I retired.”
Before he was “keeping Lebron in check”, read up on how he was the bridge between kobe and shaq in LA. The vocal role he played with Michael jordan in Washington. Phil and Doc River’s endorsements.
Ya, people respect their elders. Lue is 43. Gentry was 43 in 1997. They are respected for different reasons

Why not Lue?
The only thing most of us know about him is he got the job because LeBron didn't want to be coached, therefore the only thing most of us know about him is negative. That is unfair to Lue, but it's all most of us have to go on.

The problem is most of us know so little the onus should be on anyone who knows anything concrete to share it.

He became the highest paid assistant in the NBA when Cleveland signed him. He was in the running for the job before Blatt got it as Griffin essentially hired his top two choices for HC. All the players gravitated towards Lue even when Blatt was there. Lue essentially made a coach who won nearly 70% of his games expendable. And wasn’t just Lebron who wanted Lue. I’m not sure how it became perceived to be negative

Wins and losses are the only thing that’s concrete, and he can’t even get credit for that bc he coached Lebron. So where do you pivot to when trying to sell him? You can say he’s known as a defensive coach but his teams were great offensively (can’t give credit bc Lebron)
Can you trust the words of some of the greatest players, coaches, GMs to ever grace the court?

The problem is most of us know so little
This is the problem for all potential candidates. What does anyone really know?

The perception at the time was that Lue was hired because Lebron would be the actual coach instead. That perception among fans intensified over the course of his time there from a variety of “insiders”, and its childish but all of the gifs of him looking clueless did him no favors.
He has a stink on him on the internet that may not be true, but it is their.

I don’t remember that being a story until last year when he was up for the Lakers job.
I’m sure people talked about it but I don’t remember it being mentioned until then, and that was certainly not the perception among fans.
Now, that perception could have been 100% wrong.

Channing Frye (15 seasons), Mike Miller (18 seasons), Brendan Haywood (14 seasons), Shawn Marion (18 seasons), Richard Jefferson (18 seasons), Love (12 seasons), Mike dunleavy (17 seasons)
These are the kind of guys who played in CLE while Lue was on staff. They all talk about how much Lue did for those teams and how much they respect him. I just cannot see these type of NBA vets vouching for a coach who “Lebron controlled“ or who did not know what he was doing.
Has any respectable person knocked the job Lue did? Appears to be talking heads and fans who love buying into the narrative about him and Lebron
