Not that this means anything at all, but Crewz is saying on twitter that he doesn’t think there’s any chance the Pels hire Ty Lue.

It’s not coming from an inside info kind of place (I do not think he has any semblance of a source with us anymore, if he ever did), but more like a common sense kind of thing (he believes that Lue will want more power than Griffin will give him).

Lue is in a similar situation as Spoelstra the last couple of years imo. Post big 3, people have been putting Spoelstra on the hot seat every single year. It’s a stigma of coaching Lebron. You’re gonna get disrespected until you have a season like they’re having this season.

We can all agree that Lue can coach X and Os. The reservations coming from the body of work pre and post Lebron.

To be honest, based on all of the candidates that’s out there, I have to imagine he has to be in the top 3 guys they’re coveting.

Lue’s price tag could price him out of a place like New Orleans, where league sources say the team is expected to spend about $5.5 million annually on its coach. Pelicans executives would not discuss their coaching search with The Athletic.

Had Lue not taken the job with Rivers on the Clippers, sources said, Lue may have been hired in New Orleans earlier this season. There were frustrations at Christmas time inside the organization with Alvin Gentry, sources said, though Gentry was allowed to stay on for the rest of the year because Williamson returned from injury. The Pels started winning, and there weren’t candidates on the open market to step in.

From an Athletic article.

The 5.5 million is interesting, that's more than likely a young up and comer or college coach like Jay Wright or Stackhouse.

Between inviting Davis into the locker room and the 13 game losing streak, I’m glad the organization were feeling what we were feeling at the time.

That way people cannot look up his posts to see what he said in the past.

Thibs is adding Mike Woodson as an assistant to his staff. Not that I ever thought Woodson was a candidate here just letting everyone know in case his name comes up.

Bulls talking to a lot of guys we are interested in and being pretty proactive. Woj:

quote:

No permission was necessary for former Brooklyn Nets coach Kenny Atkinson to interview, but new executive VP of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and GM Marc Eversley are talking to several assistant coaches still involved in the playoffs, including Milwaukee's Darvin Ham, Denver's Wes Unseld Jr., and Miami's Dan Craig, sources said.

Among the assistant coaches granted permission to talk to Chicago from eliminated teams, sources said: Dallas Mavericks assistants Jamahl Mosley and Stephen Silas, Philadelphia's Ime Udoka and one candidate -- Minnesota associate head coach David Vanterpool -- whose team didn't qualify for the restart, sources said.

The Bulls are also interviewing current assistant Chris Fleming, and could also meet with assistant Roy Rogers - both remaining from former coach Jim Boylen's staff, sources said.

I thought about starting my own thread in this but thought...this discussion could go poorly. So I’m burying it here:

I really do not want this to get ultra political despite it being a political topic. Please try to keep this civil and not turn it into a race war.

In the last few days since the Nash hire, there has been a bit of an uproar over Nash getting the job.

SAS called it “white privilege”. This was of course completely absurd and has been panned by almost everyone.

However:

It HAS led to a substantial increase in discussion among a ton of the main NBA twitter blue checks about the lack of black HCs in the NBA. The league is 80% black but the amount of HCs have gone down to 7 non-white HCs, only 5 of them are black.

Whether or not people on this board consider it a problem or not is sort of irrelevant. The blue checks have deemed it so and are discussing it currently substantially. As more coaches get hired that are not black, this will intensify.

Griffin has shown to be pretty sensitive to media discussion and criticism. It does make we wonder if the remaining GMs will not necessarily do it because of this, but feel pressured to make it a thing.

Just a thought.

Considering how diverse the staff in place is and Griffin’s history of hiring black head coaches, I’m not worried and he shouldn’t either. He’s going for the best candidate and that will be the deciding factor.

I get why people think Steve Nash leap frogged a bunch of people, especially when there is a pretty good supply of black candidates, but this is Steve Nash. If Rondo announces his retirement in about a week and immediately gets a head coaching job, I don't think many would view that as unfair line skipping over guys that have been paying their dues. It'd be justified because like Nash, Rondo is viewed as special in terms of BBIQ and being a coach on the floor during his career.

There's a pretty good supply of black head coaching candidates, hopefully this will sort itself out.

I hope so.

I’m currently counting 7 stories on the issue this morning from fairly major media types.

It’s definitely a thing. If anyone makes a hire before us that is white...it’ll get worse.
