Why can’t we hit on a guy like that.

Jesus. Imagine a player of that caliber with BI and Zion.

So why all the statistical faith in New Orleans? There are a handful of reasons, but two stand out. First, the model believes the Pelicans’ roster at completely full strength has the talent of a 50-win club. And second, the other six teams in the fight for that last playoff seed all have far tougher remaining schedules.

Of the 94 NBA teams that entered this season having lost 13 in a row or more at some point, just three — the 1976-77 Bulls, 1996-97 Suns and 2000-01 Raptors — went on to make the playoffs anyway, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Pelicans would make the fourth.

Two first round exits. I was expecting three first round exits.

00-01 raptors made it to the second round. But they finished the season 47-35

Loss last night was an “unexpected” one in their model. Chances for the playoffs dropped a bit.

somehow the 538 predictions based on their player ratings still has the pels at 51% to make the playoffs. however, their elo forecast has them down to 10% which matches up similarly with espn's odds (6.3%) and basketball reference's odds (7.8%)

The ELO forecast is strictly based on teams' wins and losses and schedule. It's primitive. It does not expect Zion to help our team win.

If Giannis were to suffer a season-ending injury tomorrow, it would still project the Bucks to be the favorites to win the title. It would only adjust very slowly as the Bucks lost more and more games.
