re: 38 wins with 18 to go
No, this run is completely new territory and has left everyone shocked and amazed. MM had a take on this run that I hope is true.

I see a lot of focus on the wins. My excitement is about the CULTURE they are building.

That endures even after the winning streak comes to an end.

It does feel like this team has grown and gotten to a different place than it was before.

For MM to speak about ‘his excitement’ about the culcha change, holds a lot of credence for me due to his general Scrooge-like attitude towards the Pels

Sorry Crewz you know it’s true

it is about process. it wasn't terrible when they were playing .500 ball, it's not perfect now as they are winning tons of games.

it's very easy to say there is a culture of winning because they have won 10 straight. for example, this board still has a lot of bad posts, but they are now happy bad posts. which is delightful and a welcome change

at some point, they will (maybe) lose again and face some adversity. how will they respond? that's when we will learn what type of foundation has been laid

without a doubt.
I said it in the other thread. There's a different attitude this team has had since Cousins has went down, and it's very similar to the one they had the last time they made the playoffs. They seem focused and determined to win games, and that simply was not there the first half of the season. the remaining schedule isn't easy, but this team isn't your 2017 Pelicans, and i think they really do have a legit shot at getting to 50 wins. 48 is more likely if i had to bet on it, but i could very easily see them get to 50.

This team was 18-18 heading into 2018. They have won 20 of 26 since then, and they had to deal with losing an All-NBA player half way through that. They are 10-5 against teams above .500 during that run.

Also how much of this "culture change" is just the absence of the 7 foot man child? It's potentially tied to Rondo playing better and I think it might have also been MM that noted AD isn't whining to officials as much as he was back before Cousins went down. To me the biggest reason the Pels need to make the playoffs and maybe even win a series is just so they will have gotten good enough without him that Cousins has to adjust to the team when he comes back rather than forcing the team to adjust to him thinking they can't play at a high level without him.

AD needs to make it clear that he is the lead dog.

Speaking of...any word on his ankle?

re: 38 wins with 18 to go
how Cousins will reintegrate should certainly be closely watched.

it's interesting-

NET Rating to 1/27 is 1.4

NET Rating from 1/27 is 1.6

clearly they have a higher gear they can reach with Cousins but the pieces appear to fit more naturally (balanced?) w/o him.

maybe it's as simple as it being obvious it's Holiday and Davis who have to carry the team. maybe some of the dumb Cousins lapses he has do frustrate guys. not sure we can really know, but it's something to think about as the look to re-sign and roll with that 3 man core

To be fair to Boogie I believe I saw steady growth and improving buy in/trust in the system all season leading up to his injury. While there is risk I don't see him as a negative as much as I see the injury will require him to change even more than he already had done.

It’s quiet on the AD injury update. I’m getting nervous.

I'm his interview at halftime with Jen hale he said he was "in ADs way" jokingly...maybe there's some self awareness in that

With Niko, Okafor, Diallo they can bring him back slowly.

When their core 4 guys (AD/DC/Jrue/Niko) finally get it going and Boogie is back in rythym that team can be lethal.

Right.

I'm not blaming Cousins for anything. Just that 3 guys at their best/most comfortable with the ball in their hands is a tough nut to crack. The system they have helps a lot there.

Do wonder if he embraces more of a facilitator role post injury. Do worry about his ability in space to drive, which unlocked so much for the Pels, and how his defense will be impacted.

None of that should be mistaken for not bringing him back. Some legit questions about maxing him out, but, for several reasons, I don't see a way the Pels lose him (assuming good recovery) unless he just wants to leave

I think they became that team in the last 8 games or so that we still had Boogie. Granted, they lost it for a 6 game stretch when he went down, but then they realized they could still be that team. But they did figure it out initially before Boogie went down. And that will be key to their psyche when he returns.

ETA: Looking back at the schedule, they were 7-1 in the last 8 games with Boogie. That run included wins over the Rockets, Celtics, and Blazers - including 2 OT wins and one double OT win. We jumped to 6 games above .500 at that point I think. If we were still a .500 team when he went down and hadn’t got it going yet, it would make for some awkward team chemistry regarding his future return.
