And 99% of people that don’t want her, don’t want her b/c they don’t trust the players to respect her authority as the head coach. Has nothing to do with her ability. She’s a she, and a kinda hot she at that, which doesn’t help with a bunch of testosterone filled men.
I understand that argument but to this point we cant win jack shite with guys that they "respect". If she can legit bring something to the table and guys dont want to listen to then that says more about said player and his ability to be coached.
It's not that i Necessarily want her as much as i dont think we are in position to turn down potentially good coaches.

I understand the legit concern about guys not respecting her but I hope that’s outdated thought.
I’m open to whomever Griffin and Langdon think is the best person.
As long as it’s not Mark Jackson

The point is if she was Bill Hammon, she would not be a name that keeps getting thrown out. She would just be what Fred Vincent is to other fanbases. She would be unknown.

quote:if she was a he, she’d probably get the same looks as every other assistant under pop tho. I think this argument is kind of dumb and I don’t even want Becky. She’s getting talked about because she works under pop and has for a while. Also it’s Fred Vinson not Vincent. If anything I think her being a female has hurt her opportunities for a head coaching gig.

One of the main assistants for Gregg Popovich who has coached games in his stead, wouldn’t get looks?
You’re 100% wrong.
Guys on his staff that aren’t even close to being the lead assistant get hired.

Except, as others have pointed out, she is the next person up in the Pop coaching tree.
A coaching tree that includes multiple head coaches: Mike Budenholzer, Brett Brown, Jim Boylen, and James Borrego, all current head coaches. Pop and his disciples literally make up 17% of the head coaches in the league(Extend that to his extended family like Quin Snyder and coaches that didn’t serve under him but played for him and call him a core influence, like Monty and Doc, and that number climbs to over 25% of the league).
It’s honestly more shocking that someone is aghast that the most recently praised Pop assistant is somehow getting head coach buzz. Ettore Medina was basically on any potential head coach list you could find until he went back to Italy. Becky Hammon’s name being circulated is pretty much par for the course when you’ve had the success of Pop.

I think its pretty obvious that he just doesnt want a woman as a head coach Bunch, regardless of qualifications.

I’m not saying I want her either.
I’m just saying it’s ridiculous to say no one would mention her for a job if she was a man.

What absolutely terrible article

From all accounts, the players in SA look up to her and actually love her as a coach, so if any other players can't respect her, that speaks more on the player than the coach.

I'm sure Becky Hammon is a good coach. I think Will Hardy is the real star in waiting on that coaching staff though.

We don’t live in a world where someone could speak honestly about them not liking the first female coach in the nba. Their career would be over if they said she sucked and made the locker room uncomfortable with her presence.
And I’m not saying they don’t like her, but if they didn’t , we’d never find out.

The fact that Hammon is a woman, despite being unfair, presents a factor into the equation that I don’t want to input into the formula.
This hire has to be right. Call it risk aversion or antiquated thinking, but I want the surest thing possible. For me, that eliminates just about every assistant, and no offense Hammon, for this crucial Zion window, it means I don’t want to roll that particular die because it presents a nonzero amount of additional “unknown”.
Now whether or not she or deserves a HC job somewhere eventually is an entirely different argument. You would have to be in the SA building or well-connected in NBA circles to know exactly what sort of qualities and potential she brings to the table. Judging by anecdotal evidence she has a chance to be a HC someday, however I don’t think the Pels are in position to take on that experiment right now.

I guess a white guy is out otherwise will be crucified in the media
A woman is one of the top 3 candidates
I don't want to be the test case for that but I'm sure Pops will throw in his two cents
Gentry hire was terrible to begin with, his track record as a head coach was not even close to what the Pelicans needed at that time

I really think the Pels have enough of a track record built to hire whoever they want. Woman owner, black GM, black woman VP, black woman assistant coach. It would be a shame if optics entered the equation for them at all because they're one of the teams that shouldn't have to worry about it.

Our owner is not so quietly running damage control for a child sex scandal. We don't give a frick about optics lol.
Speaking of optics, story just broke on Adrian Griffin being a wife beater.

she sounds angry to say the least, and awfully specific for there to not be a lot of truth to it.
