The Atlanta Hawks are trading TyTy Washington, Usman Garuba, Rudy Gay and a second-round pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Patty Mills, sources tell ESPN. Hawks save $4.5M in the deal.
If Garuba gets waived, I hope we give him a look. Could be a nice project.

Same year as Hayes, same position, picked well after Hayes, and signs a 3/$23, while Hayes is basically worthless.
Nice trade back in the draft Griff.

Jonas mentioned as a name involved in Miami-Portland talks per a Miami beat writer
quote:
Latest names linked in a potential blockbuster trade involving the Heat, Blazers and others: Robert Covington Jonas Valanciunas Danilo Gallinari Saddiq Bey

Gallinari just got traded, so he can't be combined with other salaries making his name a bit odd in this. But those names suggest Washington as a dumping ground for some of the salary that Portland doesn't want and Miami can't take and trying to construct a trade you need another team to take and send out assets for Herro. So here's a 5 teamer.
NOP - Gafford
POR - Kyle Lowry/Marcus Morris/JV/Robert Covington
LAC - Tyler Herro
WAS - Nurkic, Kira Lewis Jr.
MIA - Dame
Pels swap out JV for a cheaper option that gets them out of the tax and might fit better than JV.
Portland - They get all expirings and picks.
Clippers - Add Hero, not sure how great a fit that is, but they're desperate and probably have their name linked to this deal for a reason.
Wizards - They would get one or 2 of the 1sts and Kira to swap Gafford for Nurkic's contract.
Miami - Gets Dame and gives up Herro and all of the draft picks they can send.
This seems like a workable framework, but Portland reportedly wants 4 1sts and 2 players. Pels give up one 1st. Clippers give up 2, Miami gives up 3. That's 6 picks, 2 go to Washington and 4 go to Portland. Where do the "2 players" come from. Maybe that's where the Hawks come in? Saddiq Bey and another player to Portland for some of the expirings like Morris and Covington? Are there enough assets/salary dumping to get the Hawks value?
There seem like quite a few questions marks in a 6 team deal like this, but I also see the potential to get everyone what they want.
From a Pels perspective, who would be happy with JV/Kira/Lottery protected 1st for Gafford? I'd rather keep the powder dry for a better move that gets you under the tax.

I think Portland would want a younger player with upside, those washed up vets don’t make sense for the Blazers.

I’d take Saddiq Bey. I think he’s awesome!

All good thoughts and I think if it goes down with these teams, you are probably pretty close.
Jovic is one player, so you can add him. The Clips have tried to get Lowry in the past so that could be their interest in this, but I don’t see how swapping guys like Cov and Morris for Lowry helps much. They don’t have much in picks but I could see POR or WAS being interested in Boston or Mann.
I may be in the minority but I feel like POR including Nurkic in the trade is just posturing for a better return. IDK why they would take less to dump him. I know his contract is horrific but it’s not like they’re trying to win this year or next.
I could see something like:
NOP - Gafford
POR - Marcus Morris/JV/Robert Covington/ Brandon Boston/Jovic
LAC - Lowry
WAS - Herro
MIA - Dame/Delon Wright
With 3 1sts and swaps going to POR from MIA, one 1st from us going to WAS who then reroutes it to POR, and couple 2nds going to the clips.
For us, we turn JV and a 1st into Gafford and tax relief, POR gets their two players plus 4 firsts, MIA gets Dame, WAS turns Gafford and Wright into Herro, and the Clips just swap veterans no one wants and consolidates them into a single contract who is also veteran ball handler while getting a couple 2nds they can use to try and round out the roster at the trade deadline.
I think the clippers part of this trade isn’t quite right but they’re the hardest team to fit into this trade

It took me a while but what do y’all think about this?

Pels send: CJ (35.5mil) Nance (10mil) Kira (5mil) Val (15.5) Karlo = 66.5mil
Detroit send: Alec Burks (10.5mil) Isaiah Stewart (5.2mil) =15.7mil (28mil lux tax space)
Heat: Dame, CJ, Val, Burks, Karlo
Pels: Simons, Stewart, Jovic, Lowry
Portland: Bam, Kira, Herro, Caleb Martin, Picks
Detroit: Nance, Duncan Robinson, picks

Dude, this is absolutely horrible and there’s not a single team in there that would do any of that.

Can we also put to rest the idea of trading a first round pick to get worse at center? I love Gafford, but come on.

The only way I would do it would be if we’re also getting back a young player like Jovic, otherwise adding a 1st to swap Jonas for Gafford would be a no-go for me.

Sounds like they don't want expiring, but rather pieces they can grow with.
If Dame is gone they seem to want an all out youth movement.

This is a fair post and sentiment. Ultimately I’m probably glad we didn’t get Sexton. Not bc he sucks (I think it’s too early to call), but obviously we got good pieces w some of what might have been required to trade for him. I love those guys on our team.
I was just making the point in an exaggerated fashion, that Sexton isn’t the only player I’ve ever thought was potentially underrated.
I was mainly swinging back at some on this board that literally say every available player sucks and they can’t come and be our 14th or 15th man.
My douchebaggery is only really targeted at a few posters that hate everyone and everything.
I’m very much a match energy type baw.
And I’m in a little worse mood than usual on this board bc last season was a debacle. So when our bigs are Nance, Zeller, and Jonas. Damn straight, I’m going to be willing to take a chance on Bol Bol (to at least fill the Hayes role).
I know Bol signed w the Suns now, so it’s a moot point.

Here’s my attempt:
Clips: Harden, Lowry, Tucker
6ers: Herro, Powell
Heat: Dame, Nurc, Kira, Coffey
Pels: Zubac, Jovic, Hyland
Blazers: Jaquez, Highsmith, Boston Jr, 3 1sts from Heat, 1 1st from Clips, 1st from Pels
Buyouts by Blazers: Jonas, Morris, Batum, Covington
Washington and Hawks are in rumors also, but trade machine only lets 5 teams so I’m stuck on how to incorporate them.

Pels sending pick to Blazers is why they get involved.
Also, Jonas is under buyout section by Blazers. This trade would involve two superstar players moving teams, that alone would make it a huge trade with 5+ teams. Also, for Clips to take back that salary they would have to send a minimum contract out along with those other players, there’s not much on their team besides Bones. The second apron tax rule severely limits trade movement.
Think of it like the Harden trade to Brooklyn when other teams jumped in and grabbed players while sending extra draft capital to Houston.

Jonas is not getting bought out. He may be the best rebounder in the league. I think people have started to miss the forrest from the trees. Besides, Jonas getting bought out would mean he loses his bird rights.

quote:I think you lost the comments this was about. The suggestion was that we be part of a trade with Portland whereby Portland would buy him out (not the Pels). I agree with you. I think he stays and continues to provide the rebounding. We could use an inexpensive backup big to provide some rim protection.
