I will say from a Cleve perspective they might want to be able to flip Sexton for someone that can play and help them in the playoffs so they very may well hold out for Hart or Graham and not be too excited about a Kira and picks package.

I know things change but who on here wouldn’t have traded Hart for Sexton straight up in the off-season, especially after striking out everywhere.

No to trading Jonas (a big man that’s really awesome and WANTS to be here) for any big man.

Hell no to Gordon (Griff better not bring him here).

I would be good with a Hart for Barnes trade tho. I like Hart but Barnes is a veteran and a shooter and we need both.

I wanted Sexton last season so definitely me. I love Hart though.

I like all the players mentioned (except Gordon, screw that guy), but I just don’t get them for us. You have to assume that Jones, Bi, Zion and Jonas are starters moving forward. How does a Harrison Barnes or Sabonis fit in to any of that? I don’t think Barnes is going to come off the bench.

Jonas isn't a long term plan. He'll be 30 this year.

Sexton is one of those players that is going to make some GM look like a genius....or get him fired.

On the one hand, there's a version of Sexton that evolves on the right team into a deadly combo guard that would be perfect compliment to a group like Zion/BI/Herb/Jonas...on the other, we could get what we have seen more often than not from Cleveland which is an often me-first, ball dominant, frustratingly ball stopping and shot chucking undersized two-guard that rarely passes or looks to create for others and can shoot you out of games, disrupt offensive rhythm, and de-synergize your team.

Scotto / Hoopshype article echoing what we heard from Fischer:

quote:

Scotto: The New Orleans Pelicans appear to be buyers heading into the trade deadline and have expressed interest in trading for several players, including Harrison Barnes, Robert Covington and Eric Gordon, league sources told HoopsHype. Rival executives also believe Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Jaxson Hayes are both available for the right upgrade as well. According to multiple executives, the Pelicans are more willing to listen on moving Alexander-Walker than in the past. Josh Hart is also a player to keep an eye on, thanks to his team-friendly contract, which is non-guaranteed next season, as noted on our Pelicans salary page. Some teams have liked him from afar. One of those teams is Atlanta.

Gozlan: I wrote in my trade guide last week that the Pelicans seem like buyers, and I can see them making big moves next week. They have some large tradeable salaries in Josh Hart and Tomas Satoransky and several young players like the ones you mentioned. I can see all of that potentially being consolidated for a player like Barnes, CJ McCollum, or with some of the draft picks they have, to even go after some of the best available players like Ben Simmons or Domantas Sabonis. They also have that big $17 million trade exception they can use to make an additional upgrade. This could allow them to absorb a player such as Covington, Marcus Morris, or Josh Richardson, to name a few.

So a win/win for us with Griff?

lol, true

though if we end up overpaying and then get stuck with him making too much money for not enough production(or the wrong type of production) and just have to burn through more assets to get off him.

Brook Lopez was an ideal fit In Milwaukee and they won the title with a 25 year old star.

The way Eric Gordon has played this season as both a primary and secondary ball handler shooting 43% from 3 and playing really good defense is exactly what this team needs.

But count me in the "F that guy" group. He's 33, and more importantly quit on this team multiple times. Fool me once, shame on me. I hope he spends the rest of his career busting his arse on a 15 win team

I dont really care enough to relitigate it year by year, but I always felt the Eric Gordon hate was a mix of some truth and a lot of fanfic because of the Phoenix thing and his injuries.

But under Monty he turned himself into a top 3 C&S player here and always put in effort. He seemed to mature further in Houston, if we get that player, for the right price(no first rounders), I wouldn't melt. He checks off a lot of boxes and would be a clear upgrade over Temple and NAW.

League personnel say the Pacers are seeking a package similar to or greater than the haul Nikola Vucevic drew for the Orlando Magic last season. Only Sacramento, New Orleans and Washington have been linked by league personnel as Sabonis suitors with significant interest

The Pelicans have become repeatedly linked to Rockets guard Eric Gordon. New Orleans has registered interest in various Trail Blazers, particularly Covington and CJ McCollum. The Pelicans are also said to be revisiting a trade package for Sacramento's Harrison Barnes that was discussed as a potential sign-and-trade for Josh Hart this past offseason.
No clue what Griffin thinking, if this is true.

Sabonis can play, but you HAVE to get rid of Val, at that point, when you already extended him on a good deal. Sabonis, Val, and Zion could never play together.

If i'm going to force myself to give Griff any benefit of the doubt, all I can think of is that you make a move for Sabonis and send Val to Portland for CJ.

Covington doesn't move the Pelicans needle an inch. You'd literally be giving up an asset for a name.

Barnes for Hart? Meh. You're just reshuffling deck chairs at that point.

That's not THAT old. You dont have to make sure your entire team is young going forward.

Barnes doesn't make sense with a healthy roster either. I think it means Griff is trying to get the pieces he needs for a bigger move.

Just thinking out loud, but I could see the Pels leaks having to do with possible three team deals. Aka, the Kings want Sabonis. If we can strike a deal for Sabonis, then maybe there’s a workable Fox trade. Otherwise I just don’t see the connections.

Does anybody trust him to be this calculated, then pull it off?

Nothing he's done here has shown he knows how to build a roster. From the awful lack of shooting, to bungling the center position over and over. Now apparently having interest in another center, when thats one of two positions we're actually decent at.

We're about to do something dumb.

We do know that they know lead guard is a big hole in the roster because they tried like hell to fill that hole this offseason. You also have to think they're happy with Jonas and Herb. So a lot of the names we're hearing don't make a ton of sense unless it's as part of a bigger deal.
