re: 2021 NBA Trade thread BREAKING: Bagley to Pistons in 4 team deal

Pels tidbits from Jake Fischer's latest article on the trade deadline:
LINK
quote:
At this stage of the NBA's midseason trade window, the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans are considered to be the most active teams in trade conversations ahead of the Feb. 10 deadline.
With the Ben Simmons saga still in apparent limbo, John Collins, Myles Turner, CJ McCollum and Jerami Grant remain the biggest names regularly mentioned by league personnel as likely trade candidates.
...The destination most often linked to McCollum has been New Orleans, who could sensibly deal Jonas Valanciunas and Josh Hart. That would give the Blazers a center replacement for Nurkic, a strong veteran contributor in Hart and sneak Portland under the tax. It would seem the Pelicans would be more willing to part with Tomas Satoranksy and Jaxson Hayes over Valanciunas, however.
...Landing Sabonis would require a package commensurate with the haul Orlando received for Nikola Vucevic last summer, according to our intel. Sacramento and New Orleans have both expressed a desire for Sabonis, although it’s far more likely that Turner would be the Pacers big man out the door if his injury forces Indiana to drop their asking price.

It depends on what you have to give up. My guess is a McCollum deal is one of the ones from that leak last month that said having to give up Hart was a deal breaker.

This is where the lack of NAW/Hayes developing really stings.
Because in a world where those two are coming along nicely, Jax is ready to start and be the switchable rim protecting athletic big that can occasionally knock down a three, this deal would be an acceptable framework for a lot of trades.
But giving up both those players at this point defeats the purpose of getting CJ because it would be one big step forward at guard and a huge step backward at Center and wing depth...and overall I think makes us slightly worse

McCollum should have been the centerpiece of a Jrue trade ... instead we got Eric Bledsoe ... frick you Griff

Yea, absolutely no way we trade Val---he's the ideal center we've been hoping for ever since AD.
Josh--I mean, yea, I like him, but when Zion comes back, someone has to go to the bench, and it'll prob be him. Naji needs a fire lit under his arse again, but I think he can fill 60% of Josh's role from a bench position.

At least we're seeing more of this and less of Zion.
This is bullshite though, shows that even if you're a winning team, they're still going to try to get you to New York, LA or Miami, ALA Giannis

That is the nature of NBA media.
They think they only matter because that's where the ratings are (allegedly)...and it makes their job easier because those are the places they live.
National Sports Journos are nothing if not lazy.

lol Never mind the fact that New York sucks. No no that doesn't matter.

Right? Why leave a team that's 30-19 and firmly in the playoffs for a team that's 23-26 and out of the play in?
Simply because of the city the team is in?
This shite here is the worst part of the NBA, and why the NFL will always be superior.

And you're going to pay Collins 150 mill or whatever he wants?
How does Collins fit in with Jonas and the mythical Zion? Are we trading one of them?
There's only one thing I'm trading any firsts for at this point, and that is a real, legitimate, lead Guard.

Teams allow players to dictate trade terms too much. When Lillard was the big offseason trade topic, even if we could have made the best offer, there was never a chance Portland would send him here. They would take a lesser offer to appease him and send him to one of the teams on his list.
It's the whole goodwill thing, but it ultimately doesn't make sense to me. Get the best offer. Players aren't going to stop going to Portland, you offer them the best deal, they'll sign the contract.

I agree with you that the focus should be on a guard. But I honestly wouldn't be opposed to adding Collins, then using JVal+picks to get a guard. But without looking, I imagine that could pose some cap issues, potentially with the luxury tax.

If he would have stayed at 4 and took Garland like 80% of the gm’s out there would have, there would be no need for CJ. And he would be on the exact same timeline as Zion and BI unlike CJ.
The bucks trade may still pay off down the road if we hold on to the picks, which we should.
