did you not read all the positivity i just talked about the defensive potential of this team? I am more than capable of providing positivity. I'm not all doom and gloom.

We are counting on so many unkowns and possibilities to just be a competent team. As much as I like the potential, Graham and NAW have got to be the worst starting back court in the league. We are counting on Zion staying healthy for a whole season. We are counting on Kira to take the next step. We are counting on Hayes to not be in prison. We are counting on UDFAs to give us good minutes. We are counting on a rookie to give us spacing.
For a team with 2 All-stars, it is crazy that we could finish as the 13th seed or the 6th seed with this team and no one would bat an eye.

Every team is counting on a million variables.
If you draft players, you are counting on them developing at some point.

Graham is a better 3 point shooter than Lonzo and has shown much more consistency.
Lonzo had a better percentage on similar attempts last year.

I'm sure he does, and Chicago has shown no interest in him.
RFAs will be able to sign offer sheets soon, but all any team will likely be able to offer is MLE type.

Well I won't fault you for that.
Maybe we know each other. I live in Thibodaux now.

Couldn't we S&T him and FIT HIM INTO THE MEMPHIS DEAL? Or is CHI unable to do that now that they've made some moves?

It wasn't dumbfounding, it was extremely clear what they were trying to do
It was dumbfounding because it was reliant on everything falling just right to pay off, which was extremely unlikely. Quite a few posters pointed it out at the time and were met with disdain and disregard. Maybe don't be such a smartass next time, Bunchy.

and we could offer a nice 1 year $17M or so deal to him to be our backup 4.

One of the popular things people liked to hit on Ball for was how good he was shooting in one month and they wanted to exclude that month to show how he was not great the rest of the season. The same can be said of Graham. He shot nearly 46% from 3 in March. The rest of the season, he was pretty pedestrian. So, will we get frustrated with his streakiness as well? My point was that we need to add more shooters. Relying on 1 to be the answer is very risky and did not work for us last year.
My point is that no one has any clue how the season will play out so you can't assume either Graham or PV will be efficient from 3pt or not. But their past %'s are encouraging, even if not high volume from PV.

I think we were successful in getting better in several different areas.
I think we have better IQ, more depth on the defensive end with the depth at the wing position and if they bring Hart back, the defensive versatility should be off the charts with a rotation of Hart, Didi, Naji, Temple, and Murphy to throw at tough defensive assignments.
Then we got better with players who can get to the line and hit their free throws. I think we should expect our free throw shooting percentage as a team to improve.
We also got guys who have low turnover rates. This was a killer for the last 2 seasons and should be better in this area.
The only thing we couldn't address is a big fish to tie it all together. We're going to have to rely on our young players to produce. Hopefully it works out.

You may be right. You could be wrong. My original comment was made towards PV and his potential. Now he could have a year like Ball or a year like JJ or Mellie. But that could be said for anyone in the league. Including the "shooters"

again, i am not saying that you are looking for your all-star caliber player in the non lottery picks. We've already gotten our two all star players.
The next step is to build around them. I'm not against trading 1sts to get better role players. We did that with JV.
You will never convince me it was wise to trade one to get Graham, even though I like Graham.
and you will never convince me that it's ok for us to go into an offseason without any draft picks, unless we are a deep playoff caliber team at that moment, or we traded the pick at the deadline for someone that we needed. I would almost always choose to trade a
I'm with you on that. You have to use your draft picks.

Y'all want to enjoy some bullshite? The Hornets are expected to make a significant offer to Markkanen. You'll note that we didn't send any salary back in the Graham deal, so they have some room to work with. They are also trying to pry him away from Chicago, who we just took back $15M per year in salary from while gifting them Lonzo Ball. As such, if Griffin wanted Markannen, his own deals with those 2 involved teams may very well be his own undoing.

quote:PV? I assume you mean JV? However, you are right. That is why if we started out with a goal of adding shooters, I would have hoped we would have done more than replace one with another one. I would have hoped to add another one or two who can put pressure on defenses and make them come out and challenge rather than sag back in the lane.

I don't see how he didn't try and sign mcdermott or burks or bullock.
Shite he could've even signed forbes. He is a great 3 point shooter in the regular season.
From the beginning i said they should just split the money up into smaller contracts.
Grab a patty mills for 6 mil.

This is a huge one too. I think Graham will help out tremendously with that, but the ones to really watch are NAW and still BI, although i'm hoping BI isnt' having to do so much so that number can come down. Unfortunately i expect Zion to turn it over b/c he spends so much time in the lane and the refs can't call a foul every time, even though he's fouled every time. If BI and NAW can have less on their plates and just be a bit smarter with the ball, we should be just fine.
the biggest reasons we sucked last year in the clutch, and overall, was b/c of turnovers and crappy defense. Improve that and it won't be hard to be several games over .500. Those are two things that shouldn't be that hard to improve upon, b/c we have the talent. We just need the right coach, implementation of a system that fits our guys, and then the hardest part, the execution of that system.
Atlanta showed how much a coach can make a difference. Trae Young's turnovers went down after the switch as they changed their offensive approach which created more open looks at the rim and beyond the arc by setting more off ball screens, and the teams ORT shot up. They went from having the 3rd worst 4th quarter margin, losing half of their games that were tied or leading going into the 4th, to having the 2nd best net rating in the 4th, and winning 20 of 22 games where they had the lead or tied going into the 4th.
