You want to vastly overpay for LaMarcus Aldridge?

As a primer for today:

Pels can currently roll about 18 million into the Memphis trade. Send nothing out, take in a player making up to 18 mil.

Add Iwundu in there and its about 20.2 and its about 22.8. Add Hart (factoring in an 11 mil per year S&T), and it about 30 million

Pels are about 39 mil from the lux tax, not including Hart

Could easily add salary to Memphis deal and sign Hart and/or use MLE and not worry about the tax at all

Long way of saying there is no excuse to not make 1-2 more impactful moves

They have 15 players on the roster at the moment. Any deal they make will have to include outgoing players. It could be tricky as the other team will need to be okay with taking on a player we don't want like Iwundu.

At this stage in free agency, I don't think it's wise to try to trade Satoransky because that would leave a hole at the guard position with a lot of unproven guys.

Unproven young guys that we believe will grow to be better might be more worth it than a proven average to below average guy like Sato

And going into the season without an insurance for these young unproven guys would be a dumb move. If they establish themselves, then you can easily trade Satoransky since he's an expirer. Whatever you think he is, he is still going to be a useful asset for this young backcourt going into the season.

Gabriel isn't guaranteed and as long as we are a good $2M under the tax, you can just waive Iwundu if you can't include him in a trade.

Yeah we all know how much money we can clear. It doesn’t matter if no one is willing to take it or send you anything worthwhile to take it.

As Fun Bunch pointed out, they're having trouble giving their money away. If roster spots were an issue hopefully they have enough salary margin to spare that you could cut Iwundu and just eat his minimum salary.

I saw Griff making it rain at Rick's last night, and even the strippers didn't want his money...sad

I think that this scenario would put us 5-10 games ahead of last season. That would put us solidly into the play in tourney, but not a 1-6 seed using last years results.

If we could have achieved this without using all of the draft capital that we had to use, I would give it a B. But, because we had to use draft picks to fix prior errors, I would grade it a C.

I think if that's the best we can do, that is not a bad offseason. We are a better team in my book, perhaps much better on offense. Could be a 10 win difference at least.

Graham/Sato/Kira
NAW/Hart/Temple/Didi
Ingram/Marshall/Murphy
Zion/Lauri
Jonas/Hayes/Willy

I don't mind Sato, but i don't want him ahead of Kira on the depth chart.

Kira has to be the backup pg, and we should all be hoping that he breaks out by the midway point and forces Willie to start him over Devonte. We should want this problem, and it shouldn't be b/c Devonte isn't playing well like Bledsoe, but b/c Kira is playing that much better.

Backup 2? He’s the most pure PG on the roster

I cannot see Kira ever playing SG in any notable minutes. Definitely a PG.

And if he is better than Sato, then he will get minutes for sure.

I'm just looking at start of season roster.

ANd just to be honest:

We probably won't get Markannen, so its an exercise in futility anyway.

So, if we don't get Lauri and we don't make any other significant moves, how do you grade the offseason? I would give it a D considering what we had to give up just to make us marginally better.

So we got: a better/cheaper center, veteran depth, similar PG/SG on a much better deal, expiring contracts for a better FA class next year, still got the draft pick we wanted, rid of Bledsoe and Adams, more cap flexibilty

Gave up: Lonzo (wouldve been a 22 mil contract) and protected 1st

I don’t necessarily love the offseason, but there were no detrimental moves and it seems like the team immediately improved. We almost gave Lowry 34 mil a year. We couldve paid Dinwiddie 25 mil a year. Those would have been detrimental options IMO. The FA class sucked this year. Closer to a B- than a D

B-

Getting rid of SVG and Bledsoe makes it better than a C no matter what to me.
