If Zion is the fricking man, how many All-stars does he need to be surrounded by before making the playoffs? He already has 1 All-star teammate.
cannot be stated enough.
by year 4 of Zion's career, he should be leading his team to 45+ wins regardless of his help, even though he does have another all-star on his team. If he can't do this, just like AD couldn't, then maybe he simply can't be the lead dog. But I don't believe that.
I'm not worried about this season. We aren't done yet this offseason, and i think we are going to be miles better this year.

I agree, but Griffin needed to string together a few nice moves this offseason in rapid succession. Nothing major, just nice, solid moves. He hasn't done much, unfortunately.

I feel like it is only a matter of time before we hear that Zion has fired his representation and hired Rich Paul.

the frustrating part is that it seems we ignored guys like McBuckets (who signed for a very reasonable deal in a small market) for bigger fish like Lowry. we tied up all these resources into these complicated pipe dreams that prevented us from making those sorts of moves

The tragedy of it is that he may have had a great plan, and a ton of guys that "showed interest" and really they were just using us and literally no one wants to come here unless forced.
And it all just fell apart. But that doesn't excuse him.
He still has time, really until late tomorrow evening to put it together.
After that we are kind of fricked.

It does not look good and has not been good so far. I am still holding out hope that he will be able to pull something off in the next 48 hours.

Yeah, I'm not jumping off a cliff and I do feel we are marginally better already than we were last year.
But we needed to do a little more than "marginally" better.
Like it or not part of this is a PR game. If the media assaults you relentlessly, perception eventually becomes reality.

We offered CP3, we offered Lowry, we offered THJ, we offered Dinwiddie, I’m sure we offered Conley. I don’t think the issue was wasting time or lack of effort. The problem was not knowing the situation, and losing assets in the process. Trading both picks next year and locking up the ability to trade our own future pick is devastating.

Yeah people were calling me a melter or a nega-Pellie yesterday/Monday night but it was pretty clear we were whiffing at all of our expected targets in the initial plan. Griffin may be able to salvage something, but the initial plan is super dead. our cap situation may be in some shite based on how he tried to make these complicated deals, too. it's potentially real gross so he better have some plans Es and Fs lying around

Lebron needed a couple plus several aging former ones

clearly, that's why i brought up the other end of the spectrum ( a mid-level guy who would have fit). we get him, Sato, and Graham, with some cap room or a big TPE, and we're in a good position going into next year

and there is this, too.

Again, Griffin even mentioned that it may look like we are doing nothing but the deals they were looking at were really complicated essentially, so just have some patience.
He has about 48 hours. We will see.

One of those is lottery protected. Which is kind of a big deal.

I’m looking forward to the “then you go and do something like this…. and totally redeem yourself” moment. It’s coming.
It’s coming, right?

Aren’t both lottery protected? Or at least Top 10?

Here's the flipside:
The longer you wait to do these deals, the more the media and online absolutely levels you, the more desperate you seem, and teams who were looking to deal now smell that and suddenly want excessive extra compensation.
And what are you going to do? You eventually have to say yes because your alternative is to do nothing and then you are REALLY fricked about 25 games in.
That's why there is always benefit in doing these deals IMMEDIATELY, as soon as FA opens.

It’s frustrating that Griffin wants to use cap space to chase big name FAs instead of using it to build assets and take on trades. Everyone knows that’s the only way to use cap space as a small market team. Funny enough, he’s almost lucked into being forced to pivot to that strategy.
I’m not happy so far with how this FA period has played out for the Pels, but it’s definitely not worst case scenario by any means. For the first time in a long time we don’t have any bad contracts on the books. For a small market team that’s not quite ready to compete for championships, that’s always a priority. We’ll see how it plays out.

On cue, MM:

Moritorium period ends at noon EST Friday. You dont want to be scrambling that morning, and teams wont be happy waiting on you to do things after it lifts. Will hold everything up
So, basically, Griff has today & tomorrow to make his moves. You guys dont have to wait much longer

Is he saying that he knows moves are coming? Or just saying if they're to come, they'll come soon?
