Why is 311 so popular in Louisiana?

Anyone else notice this? Most my acquaintances from outside of Louisiana don't dislike them, they're just not all obsessed about them like some of my friends here in Louisiana. Any idea why?

Maybe, but it's really strong in Louisiana.

I never could get into 311. I remember "Down" wasn't that bad, but they had a bunch of gay songs about space and stuff and also did a horribly butchered version of "White Man in Hammersmith Palais."

Aren't they from Omaha? You can't expect a band from there to do anything decent.

I've wondered that myself. It seems like they were a REALLY big Varsity draw before they became nationally popular. Maybe it's a reciprocal fan-band appreciation thing like Better Than Ezra.

311 loves Louisiana and Louisiana loves them back.

Not the biggest fan but 311 Day in '08 was rowdy as shite. 3 2-hour sets

Didn't realize they were still active. They haven't been up here to either Toronto or Montreal since ~2008 and only have been up here maybe 5 or so times total.

Because Canada is stupid.

Have you even been to heard of the motel by Niagara that's is "famous" for having Elton John stay in the honeymoon suite with the heart shaped jacuzzi in the room?

Not familiar with this legend. In which hotel is this alleged to have occurred?

I can't remember the name. We stayed there for a school trip and that was the motel's claim to fame.

I'll have have to do some research.

They used to play here all the time. They played the Centroplex 5 or 6 years in a row and have played the Varsity and even Grant St in Lafayette a bunch too. Most bands their size don't play Baton Rouge or even Louisiana that often.
