re: Why I think AC/DC is the most overrated band of all time

AC/DC is just pure classic rock and roll. I have posted before that if extraterrestrials came to Earth and you wanted to explain to them just what classic rock music is, just let them hear Shoot to Thrill. That's all it would take. It's just fun, kick arse, high energy rock and roll. Not deep stuff but I love it. I have seen them six times in concert and they were the most raucous live events I have ever seen. I would put Van Halen Diver Down tour up there with it as well.

Quite a few folks in this thread don't appreciate the EL34 power amp sag from Marshall Amplification. AC/DC does, and I'm glad they do.
I started playing guitar and got into tube amps, that tone and sound was a big part of my change of opinion of AC/DC. The SG through a cranked Marshall is pretty awesome.
Angus is a good blues rock player and proves one doesn't need big hands to play great guitar.
And to the OP, get on Youtube and check out Rick Beato's critiques of AC/DC. Even he admits there is some real cool stuff going on in that band.

The appeal of AC/DC is very similar to the appeal of Kiss.
This looks like an attempt at analysis but really it’s condescension towards people who’s taste you think is beneath you
AC/DC is blues infused hard driving rock. They weren’t trying to be Jim Morrison. They were drunks partying
Kiss was trying to be theatrical they seemed more like performers than musicians, especially Gene and Paul. They were about marketing a brand. You did not have AC/DC lunch boxes or AC/DC and the phantom of the Amusement Park

No, I just think that they're highly overrated and don't like their music at all. But, music is highly subjective. The O.P. gave his opinion and I gave mine. But thanks for affirming what I've said all along. The Beatles are the original "boy band."
Right, and you are perfeclty welcome to hate their music and that's perfeclty fine. You could have just said that and I don't think anyoen would bat an eyelash considering it's your opinion and you have your own likes and dislikes.
But..you said they are "the most overrated band of all time, not even close" which goes beyond just liking or not liking somethign and into idiotic territory. Especially since your only claim to support it was she loves you. And sure, you can claim they were the original boy band, but you still ignore the fact that the reason they are so universally lauded is because of their transformation AWAY from that and what they ultimately became. That's not just having an opinion, it's using gross hyperbole and exaggeration to sound edgy and hip.

I won't attempt to argue the OP's point one way or the other.
All I will say is, I contend that a band who could put out a song that rocks as hard as this one, off of their 14th studio album, some twenty-five years into their professional musical careers, deserves to be "overrated".

I like them because Kafka doesn't. I'm so edgy.
I never really thought people took AC/DC seriously enough to even rate them. What's wrong with in your face hard rock? Straight up Gibson SG with a Marshall Plexi Amp turned up to create it's own distortion.

Any opinion that may slither out of your forked tongued mouth is herafter invalidated.
Further: 1) both Brian and Bon’s voices are unique and perfect for the music; 2) who cares about lyrics, but also have you ever listened to Ride on, Who Made Who, The Jack, etc.?; and 3) no one has done more with less than ac/dc.
Kindly delete all your music.

I think the lyric "We roll tonight, to the guitar bite" is brilliant.

Bobby Scott was the best. Can't top late Seventies AC/DC

But, what I find interesting is how everyone dismisses their cheesy, bubble gum origins. While shitting on a no nonsense, you know what you're getting, rock band like AC/DC.

What makes the Beatles so unique is the incredible evolution of their music over basically a 6-7 year period. No other band has come close to it. And even their "cheesy" early music was well crafted pop songs.

Dude your talking about a rock band that made the same album over and over and over for years and got pretty damn rich doing it. I'd say that was pretty genius

Wow...it was 1-9-6-2. Listen to what was popular in 1962-1963. Even their "cheesy, bubble gum" songs rocked more than anything else at the time. They were all 20-23 years old in 1963. They wrote their own songs and played their own instruments unlike the so called "boy bands". The way they morphed musically, lyrically & creatively from 1966-1970 is why they are the GOAT's. Period.

I didn't get it at first, but I get it now (and I'm an old man). I hated then back in the day.
There's something going on below the surface and I really can't explain it.
Same. I wasn’t a fan back in the day which is sad. I really appreciate their music now.

There's a tremendous difference between AC/DC with Bon Scott and AC/DC with Brian Johnson, and that's being very polite about it.
